Rarely give 5 stars: but this is a solid little train that my, discerning, 2 1/2 year old grandson loves. Runs on 2 AAA batteries that last well. Great pulling power on standard wooden rails for such a small item- and also runs, slowly, on flat carpets. The little boy loves squeezing small amount of water into the filler next the funnel (and everywhere else). It sends up realistic little puffs of "steam" and amazingly there is no heat anywhere. Maybe produced by condensed air? No heat anyway.

We ordered the train for our son's third birthday. After fitting batteries, the train worked for 5 minutes and then wouldn't come back on. We ordered a replacement and exactly the same thing happened. Thinking it was a faulty batch from Amazon, we did some googling to purchase another elsewhere only to find that someone had mentioned that it takes 2-3 seconds of a 'press and hold' to turn the train on. Both the original train and the replacement train work perfectly once you know to hold the button down. I don't know why Brio haven't mentioned this in the instructions clearly, but I am sure that the plethora of negative Amazon reviews are related to this one simple fact that is required to make it work! The train is really great and a lot of fun when used with a tunnel.

Was awesome and exactly what you want... until it stopped producing the "steam"/water vapor. Turns out this model of train is notorious for this problem, but now the return window has expired, so lols all round.

Great present for my 3 year old who loves building tracks but gets bored once they’re finished just pushing the trains. Got to be said, it’s agonisingly slow but still good

I didn’t see any mention of the batteries so got a bit stuck with the wrong kind. but this is well worth the price. It’s adorable and my little one loves the movement and sound. It’s incredibly well made , perfect size and a very strong little engine . Will need to keep adding to our collection , bigger and better. It’s an addictive hobby but I’m interested in building a thinking mind so the track collection will get expensive. Well and truly worth ditching the junky toys and investing in quality, open ended toys that nurture imagination.

The 3 year old grandson loves this train. He first saw it on a YouTube video and was fascinated by the smoke/steam. He loves playing with it, but is a bit unsure about collecting and putting the water in, but once it gets going he’s happy. It’s expensive but it’s only Brio train has steam coming out of smoke stack. The steam is cool to the touch so not dangerous for my son to play. It’s a bit slower in speed compared to the other Brio red train we got for my son.

This is our 2nd one for our son who just loves playing with the "real" steam train, works as expected and quick delivery.

5 stars product. I have purchased some of the Brio sets for my 3 year old child and this one really stands out for build quality, ease of use and the steam effect it really brings the game to another level.
