Alias Grace: A Novel

Very well written
I really enjoyed reading Alias Grace. Very few writers can match Margaret Atwood's talent and skill. Her writing is precise, deliberate and controlled, and more than anything, it is underpinned by emotional intelligence and depth of thought. A good, solid novel. I recommend it.

where the truth is?
"Just because something is written, sir, doesn't mean it's the sacrosanct truth." I like to begin my reflection on this book by Margaret Atwood with this sentence. I know and appreciate the writer's narrative and stylistic skills having read many of her books. This also captured me because, through Grace's story, Atwood, in my opinion, wants to show that there is never a single truth but that there are as many points of view as there are the points of view, the prejudices of those who seek or take it for granted .

Great Story
The book is always better than the movie, or in this case than the TV series. In some times the book could be slow, but is easy to read.

The Epitome of Historical Fiction and Mystery
This novel was, for me, the perfect combination of historical fiction, mystery, and psychological thriller. While the story does move slowly, it leaves the reader in suspense as it builds layer after layer of detail that makes you question everything you think you know about Grace. There is, of course, a great deal of social commentary on the place of women and the various classes, but it is presented in such a way that it adds to the story, rather than coming off as preaching. I love that she leaves it to the reader to decide whether Grace is guilty or innocent. Or, just maybe, like most of us, she’s both.
