The title says headphone, can you actually use them as headphone? I only see comments about them used as earmuffs.

Hi Tom, Thanks for your question, these are Ear Muffs and designed to protect against outside noise, they can not be used as a headphone to listen to music.Kind regards,

Would this cancel out the sound of thunder or just lower the sound?

It muffles the sound of my shot gun well but I can still hear it. Keep in mind it's inches from my ears. Im sure this will keep the sound of thunder very low or completely out depending on how loud it is 

why are these called headphones?

it's probably a description mistake, they certainly are not headphones, but they are nice earmuffs

I am looking for a low profile/semi inconspicous something to wear at church where the music is just too loud for me. Might these be a good choice?

Hi L. King, Thank you for asking your question. I do not think these will be low profile or semi-inconspicuous. You could look at the pictures in our listing to see whether or not you would think these are too big or to noticeable. we have a few photo's where you will be able to see how large these are on an adult man. Hope this answers your question, Kind regards,
