Africa! AMAZING Africa
I used this book in conjunction with an Anna Hibiscus novel to teach a unit on Africa to 1st and 3rd grade. This is a wonderful book! It does a fantastic job of introducing the wonder and diversity of Africa. The illustrations are stunning and the information ranges from historical, industrial, ecological, cultural, to geographical. By the completion of the unit my students had a love and respect for Africa.

Wise purchase, fun resource!
Fantastic book! I am from West Africa and I was delighted to find a book that could help show my children the diversity and vibrance of the whole continent while highlighting interesting facts about each individual country (because...Africa is not a country!!) This book was perfect. I appreciate that it avoided simply listing dry facts and went way beyond the common approach of focusing on animals or stereotypical images. This colorful book is a lively, well-written, child-friendly homage to a continent where you can find everything you can imagine under the sun. I love how the book organizes the countries by region, too...this worked well for our homeschool geography study. And it exposed our whole family to fascinating, little-known aspects of each country that we could then run off to research more on our own if we wanted...great resource!

Great Book to Have
This book is an excellent introduction to Africa and all of the countries it possesses. It is a lovely addition to our library.I do wish it had more factoids, I am a sucker for little facts. Even then, this is truly an wonderful book to have and the illustrations are beautiful.

An excellent overview of Africa for children and their parents.
Atinuke's books give readers insights into Africa through the daily lives of African children and their families. This new book takes a different approach, providing more of a "social studies" view of the continent at a level that is appropriate for children of primary school age but which can also be valuable for middle school age children. The fact is, parents will also learn much. Some of the challenges Africa has faced are touched on, but the overall tone is upbeat and reflects optimism about future directions. The illustrations by Mouni Feddag are bright, joyous, and quirky. Highly recommended.

Actually Zero Stars
Tragic. Disrespectful to Africans. Pathetic. Definitely returning it. How can one call themselves an author, yet be too lazy to do actual research about the subject matter of their book? I was so disappointed in the content that I looked up the author, and was even more disappointed to find out they are of African ancestry. This book reads like an outsider writing our stories, perhaps because she grew up in Wales? However, if she actually did care about painting an authentic picture of the continent, she could have taken the time to research each country. Literally all my African friends and family are disappointed about what she wrote about their countries. Even more shocking was what she wrote about her own country (Nigeria)- TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC, REALLY? She clearly doesn't think much about Africa, because she chose to write about how we have cars there, we sometimes go on holiday abroad, etc. My spouse is from Niger, which is mostly desert or sub-desert land, yet the illustration is of greenery and farming. I plan on contacting her about this.

Complete waste of money!
A very very disappointing book, great idea with vibrant eye catching imagery let down by very poor country information. My wife and I are originally from Sierra Leone and wanted to teach our young children about amazing stories about our home country and other countries on the continent. Unfortunately our hearts sank when we we read the utter dribble about our country and others, very lazy research and is counterproductive with negative stories.I cannot stress enough this was a bad investment and a waste of money.

Disappointing
Having grown up in Cameroon and bought this so my children could find out a bit about the continent their ancestors called home, this is a disappointing book. Not sure what the authors research is based on as I don't remember creeping past wild animals on my way to school. Very disappointed

Disappointing
Disappointing. I expected to read about, learn and teach my child about interesting facts and pivotal moments in history from this book. Instead and for example, the most interesting fact that it describes about Nigeria is that Lagos has a lot of traffic - I mean, really? Is this THE most important thing to learn about Nigeria?! There were similar pointless/less educational facts quoted about other countries too.Unfortunately I will not be recommending this book.

Poorly written and misleading information
First of all, Thank you for trying to impress us about the African continent...Next time please try to be more specific to what are you covering in the book and make sure you do cover its objective. Because this book is rubbish and adds no significant value to any child learning curiosity of what this book is illustrated to represent. Misleading information...I can't let my son read anything on this book. Because I don't want to give him the wrong impression of what Africa is all about along with each of its glorious countries historic events and it's rich cultural heritage and morals... I am from Guinea-Bissau š¬š¼ and my country is a lot more than just that and thatāļøš¾!!! Is disappointing for me and my country. Is like an insult to my being and a slap in our face, along with many other countries in this book. Get your story write next time and stop selling foolishness to people who are just looking for something to inspire them ālike our childrenā...

Disappointing content despite beautiful illustrations
I loved the illustrations in this book but was disappointed with the contents when it arrived. It has a country per two pages with an illustration and a couple of very short paragraphs describing each country. Itās very reductive other than listing all the countries in this continent. I was hoping for more informative content to broaden the horizons of my 7yo but what I got was a superficial approach that gives the impression that all the countries in this continent are happy colourful places with lots of animals that in Europe would live in zoos. Iām tempted to return it.
