Charges lots of devices quickly while developing.
I have a lot of Androids in my life as I'm a professional Android developer. The ability to deliver a high current charge while I'm using them to develop and test is important to me. This replaces a power strip full of wall warts and manually plugging the device I need into my development host. There's enough space between the USB ports to allow for somewhat bulky thumb drive form factors without blocking adjacent ports. There seems to be some kind of current overload that is possible to trip in this model. Once a port goes into that mode, it delivers no power until the USB hub is reset. The AboveTEK® USB Voltage Current Multimeter just goes blank and the blue USB indicator just extinguishes. That's pretty hard to trigger, though, but you want to pay attention to those blue lights or your device will not be recognized and it will not receive a charge. As a minor design point, I wish the AH240 didn't use the upstream USB status to control charging on the downstream ports. When the development host is asleep, it would be nicer if it could charge "full tilt" overnight, but it's a minor point for me. Charging faster than they discharge while I'm working really was the deal-maker for me, so overall it's a win.

not so much
Three of the seven USB 3.0 ports were dead out of the box. The remaining four initiated charging error messages on my new iMac; both for my iPhone 5 and iPad Air. These devices, according to the manufacturers claims, should both charge and sync without issue.Yet ANOTHER USB Hub that doesn't do what it claims to do. On its way back to Amazon for a refund.------------While I stand by my original review of the AH240, I am revising my feedback to include the latest response from AnkerDirect. I'll say this; AnkerDirect really goes the extra mile to make things right. Shortly after my review was published to Amazon, I was contacted by email from a CS Rep. who personally apologized for my defective product and subsequent return to Amazon. She offered suggestions for hubs which met my criteria and allowed me to choose one, free of charge, for my inconvenience. Within a few days a shipment arrived. Unfortunately, it was the SAME model AH240 I had returned :-)After calling their CS line, a replacement was quickly sent. In the interim, they emailed a return label for the AH240. I appreciate and acknowledge companies that care about their customers; they're scarce as hens teeth in this day and age. My hats off to you, AnkerDirect, for a job well done!

Excellent and reliable
I am using this port Hub with a Macbook Air and El Capitan 10.11.6.The hub worked out of the box. All ports work as expected with USB 3.0. I have external drives, DVD and blueRay readers, an ethernet-usb adapter, and connect occasionally iPhones 6 and SE, as well as iPads. Have also connected a bluetooth device and an airport base station to program it.I have had none of the problems other users have mentioned. All 7 ports work as a charm. I am very happy with the hub and cable, and also with the fact that the hub is absolutely silent, does not get warm, and has inconspicuous black lights on the ports. To make it better I would probably add an on/off switch. When the computer is disconnected it stills keeps sending electric signals to the DVD reader causing it to click periodically, which is annoying. My solution has been to unplug the hub every time I disconnect the computer.

Solid Unit, Well Build and Designed. Works great.
I was more used to seeing small compact USB adapters. I was pleasantly surprised with the heavier weight and larger size of this unit. It is wider and provides ample space between ports for those poorly designed extra wide USB plugs.I plugged in everything I had:1. USB 3.0 Plugable Dual Display, which connects the DVI and HDMI cables to item 2 Star Tech below.2. Star Tech 4 Port StarView Dual Display DVKVM a. This powers up 2 17 inch displays, mouse and keyboard.3. USB 3.0 Western Digital 2TB My Passport external hard drive. All of the above now consolidated into one USB 3.0 that plugged into my HP Laptop (Windows 7, Intel i7 processor)It Works! All of this complexity gave this adapter plenty of opportunities to fail. Quite frank, I wasn't totally optimistic after reading some of the review, but it all all worked!. I even tested the USB 3.0 external hard drive with a heavy load, performing an Acronis backup. The backup was successful. So far so good. I hope to come back several months down the line to provide an update report.

Devices keep disconnecting, confused customer service
Anker's customer service was very nice throughout the process of troubleshooting the USB hub, but the good things ended there. All my devices kept disconnecting - not just my hard drives. None of the devices had issues when plugged directly into my PC.My monitor (like many) has two USB inputs and one USB out. That's how the built-in webcam connects to a PC. I had plugged in my mouse and keyboard to the monitor's USB inputs, and the single USB out to the Anker hub. Tech support seemed confused by this, stating that there wasn't enough power to drive the monitor, and repeatedly asked me to describe my setup. I replied that it was a webcam, mouse and keyboard.I was told that monitors frequently require more than the 0.9A the hub is rated for. Not sure how a webcam, mouse and keyboard draw more than that. When I plug the same setup into the port on my laptop, everything works fine. They then replied that the voltage must have exceeded the amperage available from the hub. I don't even know what that means, or how my laptop is better at supplying power than the powered hub.Thankfully, Anker understood when I said I simply needed to get a device that worked, and helped with the return.
