Born Out of Experience
This is a book born out of many years experience in Dr. Apple's life. As a receiver of mercy, as one engaged in mercy giving, and as one who has directed the mercy ministry of many others, Dr. Apple gives practical, in-depth counsel for individuals and churches desiring to fulfill God's command to care for the poor and all who are in need. What he presents in this book is what he has implemented at Tenth Church, and I am pleased to see that his wisdom is now being shared with a wider audience. Diaconates from churches should make this required reading.

Practical advice for everyone who follows God's command to love your neighbor
David Apple takes Scripture, theology, and theory and applies them to real life. And he backs it up with years of personal experience, with a heart for the neighbors we are called to love. There is practical advice in here for everyone, since we are all called to do mercy ministry. Families should read this as well as church ministry groups. This provides a valuable addition to the library on mercy ministry. We should thank God for this book and for David's life of service that led to this book's publication.

Valuable guide for equipping churches
While the reader will not find this to be a literary gem, he or she will find a treasure trove of valuable guidelines for equipping churches to establish effective mercy ministries that serve both their attendees and their communities at large. The detailed suggestions for training volunteers should also be of considerable help in accomplishing these objectives.

Practical Ministry Tool
I found this book to be very practical for everyday ministry. I currently serve as a deacon at my local church and believe that the principles taught in this book would be very useful. I would recommend this book to others on the diaconate.

A good tool for deacons and churches large and small
Somewhat slow going early on, but contains much biblical, practical, and actionable advice (including what not to do, such as give cash. ever). Provides checklists and resources for additional information. A good tool for deacons and churches large and small.

A Practical Guide for Ministering, While Knowing When to Say 'No'
A practical guide for ministering to those in need while having discernment to say no when the situation calls for it. Also an inspiring account of David's personal life and spiritual journey.
