Product description Music CD .com It's Dale Watson's misfortune to flaunt a devotion to straight-no-chaser honky-tonk at a time when Nashville prefers its country with about as much kick as buttermilk. Indeed, it's tempting to imagine the response an album as solid and occasionally inspired as Dreamland would have received in the heyday of Merle Haggard and George Jones. With Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson at the production helm, Watson's hard edges are softened a bit on this 12-song collection, but he's still got the perspective and pipes for putting across barroom laments that may be unsurpassed among his contemporaries. The conservational delivery of "I Wish You'd Come Around" and the masculine wistfulness of the title track are as stirring as they are effortless. Watson seems destined to haunt the fringes of country music, where connoisseurs of hardcore honky-tonk gather to toast a master who's had the hard luck to come along a couple of decades too late to get his just rewards. --Steven Stolder

Discovering Dale Watson Via His Recording Of "Fox On The Run".
I was actually looking for the best rendition of the country-western song "Fox On The Run", originally sung by a man called Hazard, which I stumbled upon the original while listening to the radio back in 2002. In October of 2013, I decided to try to find the song via YouTube, and found that it has been performed by many, many groups---the best so far since Hazard, being Dale Watson. I went online and found the song in his CD called "Dale Watson--Dreamland", and then fell in love with every song on that CD after it arrived very quickly in the mail. Every song includes Dale's excellent quality voice and every element of his country group, especially the versatility and sheer talent of how the instruments were played. I am looking forward to ordering more of Dale Watson's CDs and enjoying more of his music!

Another great Dale Watson album
This 12-number Dale Watson CD is the "tightest" sounding release of his career.....and I certainly believe that it's due to the Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel) production. Of all his albums, this one is heaviest on Western Swing, and Benson's influence has created a more refined (I dare say Polished?) Dale Watson album. Still, the signature, Lefty-influenced voice of Dale is in complete control of every song here, including an outstanding cover of the classic "Fox on the Run". And, while the Western-swing sound is prominent, Dale's "Never Ever" is perfect Bakersfield Country. Unlike many albums, this one remains strong throughout. It is just criminal that Dale's music has not received the recognition that it deserves. But, as long as he continues to put out albums, I will continue to buy them.

Buy it. Buy it, again. Buy it, again and again. Give it to your friends, relatives, neighbors, bum on the street.
Are you kidding me? Dale Watson is the very definition of COUNTRY MUSIC! This man is up there with George Jones - YES, I SAID IT! George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, you name it. Dale Watson not only sings and plays it country, he writes it country. Best damned country album hands down.

How much steel guitar and fiddle can one take?
Speaking for myself, an absolute ton, and I get it all on this CD. The musicianship is utterly fantastic throughout and background vocals are just that, background. There's none of the pop-sounding, over-harmonized vocals on this or any other Dale Watson album. I find it difficult to provide even a short list of favorite tracks let alone a single favorite. Like other reviewers, I think "I Wish You'd Come Around" is great. The meandering steel guitar throughout "She Don't Care"-- which it seems should really be called, "You Don't Care"-blends beautifully with Dale's vocals. "Ain't a Cow in Texas" and "Love At First Site" are just plain fun to listen to and sing along with. Thanks for another great country album, Dale.

Great stuff from Dale Watson. (All my reviews say pretty much the same thing, because it's true! Dale Watson knows what Country music is supposed to be about, and he delivers !)
