Sedona's Top 10 Hikes

Loved this book. Organized, detailed, and good info on matching a hike to your abilities. Keep in mind, this is just 10 hikes that this author (who proved to be very knowledgeable) thinks are the best. If you're on the hunt for vortexes (vortices??) this book identifies several, but suggest checking out his book - What Is A Vortex - that is devoted to it. I am so not a vortex hunter - everywhere in Sedona is pretty magical - but he does a nice job trying to explain what the big deal is, and how to find them in greater detail. We have done many more hikes that we loved. On our most recent visit, we used this book along with one called Great Sedona Hikes by William Bohan. It was good to have a cross-reference, and info on other hikes that are nearby the "Top 10" that Dennis Andres writes about.

Used this book extensively in Sedona. Would recommend a complete area trail map as well as parking lots are often full, trails link up and sometimes you can get to a closer trail head than the park service directs you to. You can get a smaller paper map free at the tourist centers if you prefer, I prefer to know the actual mileage and elevation of the trail so I prefer trail maps. Read before you get there and have a plan, best to go in early morning before it gets crowded as the book says. "Easy" is a relative term, if you are not an experienced hiker or in excellent shape, the easy trails will be more difficult than you think.

We did 4 days in Sedona middle of October!!!! This guide was amazing and helped us tremendously!!!! I wish it had the Hangover trail included. We stumbled on it accidently amd had a blast doing it!!! If you're from Midwest don't waste your time for the Westfork. For us it was a huge dissapintment and we felt as if we were waisting time!!!! It offers no red Rock and feels like a walk in a forest preserve than anything else. Brins Mesa was amazing!!!! Definitelly do the suggested off trail walk to the right as you reach the mesa!!!! The views are spectacular, amd odds are you will have them all to yourself!!!!

There are lots of resources out there online talking about the top 10 hikes of the area. It was great to have this book however with us when hiking to make sure we got the full experience. As is the case for most hiking books and guides for anybody remotely fit the actual hikes are much easier and quicker than posted. I also bought Sedona Trails Map (English and Japanese Edition) to accompany the book which actually made it super easy to see how different hikes are related for planning purposes and also gives a more detailed trail guide.

Very detailed. I especially appreciated the landmark description navigation details ("it looks like you should go left, but don't") when a couple trails converged and the posted direction was not very clear.

Excellent level of detail, great pics and Andres' style is warm and engaging. I wish more guide books were written like this.

had too short a time in Sedona, but this little book helped us make the most of it. Great guide. Wonderful trail descriptions, Excellent info to have before you go, and while you are there.

My family used this book during our recent vacation in Sedona. The information was accurate with respect to trail heads, parking, degree of difficulty. Evenmore importantly, his hints and advice were dead on. Dennis offers advice on these hikes as if he was part of your family. It is as much factual as from the heart. He truly wants you to enjoy and love Sedona as much as he does. Nice job, Dennis.
