CAMP Lift Ascender

Great for TR Soloing
I wanted to get into Top Rope Soloing since it's hard, as a middle aged father, to make friends, especially friends you can drag out to the krag. So I did some research and saw that most people tend to use the Petzl Microtrax for this purpose. Those are great, but pretty expensive. So I decided to go with this ascender (paired with a Ropeman 1) as my primary and back-up for TR soloing. This absolutely does the trick!I've taken a few whippers, but my set-up, which includes this ascender as the primary locking device, has never failed. It is nice that it is toothless so that the wear and tear on my rope is kept to the minimum.

I've used a lot of ascenders -- they're mostly interchangeable and work much the same way; this one has the merit of being small and light and very uncomplicated; can't comment yet on how well it bears up with use. (I would not use one of these alone, except perhaps for setting problems on a climbing wall, but then that's true of any ascender -- always use two...)

I love Camp but I am not impressed with this ascender
I picked it up for a friend for extra safety while doing arbor work. I prefer Wild Country's Ropeman1 but have had trouble finding it until recently. I love Camp but I am not impressed with this ascender. It does its job but if you are setting routes or using it for work there are better options.

Great for top rope soloing
I use this with a toothed ascender as a backup. It's light and probably the lowest friction ascender out there, which is great for top rope soloists. I'm not sure what other people are complaining about-- it's simple, it works well, and it catches me every time I fall-- my backup ascender has not once engaged. Definitely a 5 star product.

Great basic rope grab; i have the 'knock off'
I have the 'knock off' of this ascender. The carbon-copy of this is rated for 100kg; it had too smooth of a 'tooth' that grabbed the rope, I had to roughen it up and then it worked great. I would not use this for people, the 'pinch' method of grabbing the rope puts way too much stress on the rope, but it is a fantastic rope grab and i use it for pulling the bitter end of my lifting rope, I love the way it goes on/off and slides up the rope, i can 'whip' the rope grab up the free rope to get a new grip, or i can easily push the grip 'tooth' to freely move down the rope, all-in-all a great design for lower forced needs; if you need real strength in a rope grab i doubt you can beat theĀ Ct Rollnlock - Ascender/Pulley , i think its rated for 800N 'grab' on a rope; works incredible for a variable length safety line.not sure what 'usa' has to do with an italian made item.
