China Rich Girlfriend: A Novel

Couldn’t stop reading this one
Superb storytelling. Couldn’t put this book down. I loved the movement between different characters, many of which were familiar from the Crazy Rich Asians movie. I also found the footnotes to be very funny and a nice addition to the overall plot.

That ending though!
It was a little slow to get started. I'm really happy how all the characters ended up, and Kitty Pong whole story was hilarious and unpredictable and my favorite. It was also a good resolution for astrid. I'm curious to see where else these characters can go, as it seems they are all so well resolved.

Great Trilogy - better than the TV series for sure
This one was a page turner, keep you wanting more after each chapter. Sad it was only a trilogy and not a longer series. These would be a great read before or after watching the new TV series.

Delicious comedy of manners
Because I didn’t read Book 1 and only saw the movie, reading the sequel was startling because the movie didn’t transition smoothly into the novel. Nevertheless, one I got oriented, I enjoyed reading about the adventures of Nick and Rachel who headed to China to meet her birth father. The charming footnotes (like a Greek chorus) added to the fun. For me, the brand names and money and jewelry and house and clothing descriptions were a little too much. But the saga of Rachel's brother, his jealous mother, and a very crazy assistant were fun and totally different from the movie version. Then the sad story of Michael and son Cassian and his wife was interesting as well. The social climbing and jockeying for position in Asia is probably more deadly a game than in the U.S. (Rachel is involved). I’m not sure I’ll read book 3 but this was a nice break from my usual reading.

A SUPER FUN INDULGENT READ
I really enjoyed the follow up novel to Crazy Rich Asians. I had a wonderful time reading how Rachel and Nick's relationship ends up. There are some fun new characters that are introduced and I got a look at how the richest of the rich live their lives. The protagonist of the book is named Rachel and I love how even in the midst of crazy wealth she stays true to herself. Rachel is a simple and down to earth person and the people around her sense that about her.The new characters in the book range from semi-normal to loonier than you could ever imagine. One character in the book is a super famous internet fashion blogger. She has more followers than most rock stars and her fans are obsessed with the clothing that she wears and the number of times she changes her outfits each day. Fashion blogger woman has a boyfriend who has a connection to Rachel that we find out about. Nick is a bit more laid back in this book and that is a good thing because he really did not come off looking too good at the end of the last book. Take it from me, he redeems himself. Nick's mom is in this book as well and she may or may not surprise you with her antics. She is entertaining to be sure.I really enjoyed this book and I was a bit sad when it came to the end. I am holding out hope for the next sequel which might be titled Crazy Rich Asian Children. I am sure there will be skyscraper playhouses involved and other crazy indulgences. For a guilty pleasure book I gave China Rich Girlfriend 5 stars. The book gave me a lot of enjoyable entertainment.

A sequel just as good as the first!
Part of me enjoyed this book more than the first Crazy Rich Asians. I got more attached to the characters making me get really invested in the story. It’s still good fun throwing money at everything but there was emotional upheaval that I loved too. The family relationships Rachel made with Carlton and his story was touching. Kitty Pong is a amazing and I love her dearly. Her ending was probably my favorite. Astrid... I know she’s the main focus of the third book and I can’t wait to get into that. She deserves so much happiness. All around this book has kept me up all night when I haven’t done that in years. I had to know what happened next especially after the twist mystery sickness, no spoilers you’ll know what I mean when you get to it. That ending was awesome, Rachel’s actions and how characters showed their true colors. I was sad for Shaoyen because she had been tossed an unbelievable curveball. I can’t wait to pick up the next and I hope there is more to come because I’ve gotten attached to these characters. These are light hearted fun books easy to get sucked into. I would almost be willing to call them guilty pleasure reads if I thought you had to feel guilty about reading ever. That’s nonsense read what you want and be happy. Anyways, it’s an excellent series and I highly recommend it!

Part of The Crazy Rich Asians Trilogy: The Perfect Summer Binge Read
This the second book of a trilogy which you can now read complete, since "Rich People Problems" (#3) just came out. The books are delightful, despite bizarre gaffes in the prose ("Kwan never met an attribution he didn't like," Steve carped mischievously). The initial appeal is a sort of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" in Asia with Kwan as your tour guide and Robin Leech substitute. But the books are better than that, in so many ways. For one thing, they obsess over class and the intricacies of snobbery in ways that remind you of Jane Austen ... mixed with Judith Krantz, perhaps. Which makes a heady cocktail! The amusement is in the details, many of which are apparently drawn from Kwan's own privileged childhood. Not to demean his imagination, but it would be hard to contrive an old lade who fires her maid for not buying the three-day-old bread (It;s five cents cheaper!) and then spends fifty thousand dollars giving her giant tropical fish a face lift. That's right -- the tropical fish in this book get face lifts. And the private jets have Koi ponds. But if that were the sum of the story it wouldn't add up to much. Kawn's real strength is the characters, particularly Rachel Wu, the protagonist's girlfriend who assumed her guy was just another professor at NYU. Well he is, except that his family own a 65-acre estate in Singapore that makes Buckingham Palace look like Cabrini Green. We see Nick Leong's world through her eyes, and her level-headed charm grounds the books nicely.

Presente
Comprei como um presente para minha mãe depois que ela se apaixonou pelo filme. O livro tem um tamanho bom, a qualidade é excelente e não é um livro pesado. Para os amantes de Comédias Românticas é uma trilogia a se pensar em ler.
