Update Dec 2017: The umbrella is still holding strong after over a year of use. I have come to find that I don't really like having to manually push the umbrella down to compress it after it folds itself. It's not a problem when I'm only using the umbrella for shade but when it's raining I don't like having to get my hands wet. Still a perfectly functional umbrella however.A good umbrella overall! I haven't really used it under extreme rainy conditions yet but it seems so well constructed I doubt I'll be having any trouble. I primarily got this for sun protection, as I like to take walks in the afternoon. Under the hot Texas sun in the summer months, I was on the lookout for an umbrella that could block as much sunlight as possible, and since the description of this one said it had zero light transmission, I snatched it right up. They weren't kidding! Holding the umbrella up at 2 in the afternoon on a clear sky and I could not see a single speck of light through the fabric, it's that awesome.There are a few cons to this item, which are not too much of a big deal for me but I think others may like to know about:-The handle, though nice to hold, is a bit twisty.-the strap to keep the umbrella closed seems a little short. While trying to wrestle it around the umbrella I occasionally end up hitting the open button.-While the umbrella will not allow sunlight through, the black fabric does soak up the heat. I can be outside in the sunlight for a mere 30 seconds and the fabric will be very warm if I touch it. It can keep you in the shade yes, but I don't believe it will do as much to cool you off. Still, there's only so much you can expect when you're out in the summer heat. I would imagine in a less hot environment the umbrella could be more effective.Overall I am very satisfied with this product. If the manufacturer is open to suggestions I would recommend adding more colors to this umbrella. A lighter color, such as silver or white you commonly see in the top UV umbrellas out there, would do wonders to reflect much of the heat instead of absorbing it.

UPDATE: This company is incredibly great to deal with! 5 stars for an excellent product, and 5 stars for their prompt customer service.Prev post - I like to take long walks in the afternoon and have purchased many sizes and colors of umbrellas to protect me from sunlight on my face and shoulders. I can still see the outline of the sun through all the canopies, except for this one. This umbrella completely blocks ALL the sunlight as promoted and is incredibly low priced, considering the quality. The ten-rib construction holds up well in gusty wind and the spring open/close action is crisp. It is compact when folded, and while it is not as small or light as a mini-umbrella that would fit in a purse, the quality construction, broad canopy and effective UV block more than makes up for any inconvenience. If I could make a suggestion to the manufacturer, it would be this: as an umbrella to be used in the sun, more colors to choose from will be a great selling point. I like to be highly visible when walking on high traffic streets, and would feel safer with a bright red, blue or colorful patterned umbrella. I'm looking into silk screening a giant flower onto my black one, just to make it less dour, but would be willing to pay twice as much to get something of this quality with cheery colors more appropriate for daytime strolling.

I have only had this umbrella for a little less than a week and it just now started raining, and I haven't had a chance to get outside with it. However, it is really well-made, really strong, and I don't anticipate having any issues with it leaking water, What I do know it is has the strongest opening and closing mechanism I've ever seen on an umbrella. One push of the button and it springs to life from a compact position, another push of the button collapses the top of the umbrella so that you can get it inside your car and then you collapse the handle and it's ready to go. I am very impressed with the quality and function of this umbrella and I will probably be buying another one to keep in my other car. I would highly recommend this as a well-priced, very functional umbrella.

WOW!! What can I say, I purchased two (2) of your compact travel umbrellas for two (2) of my grandson's, why because they are rough on equipment and this umbrella with stood their roughhousing and they like them. The ten (10) ribs to protect the umbrella from wind are great and this umbrella is well made, much better then the umbrella's I have purchased in the past. So glad I found this item on Amazon, the price was great, the umbrella's are fantastic, they arrived a day earlier then expected they were very well package and in good shape.
