Great cooking guide for camping/hunting
The author was very experienced in the topic, written in the early 20th century so some of the expressions may not be familiar but that is part of the charm.

Great cook book!
Great cook book! Some recipes I've never heard of! This book is a good reference book, for measurements, and language from that time period! I have been impressed again by Horace!

Practical tips
If you are interested in learning some basic, low tech, camp cooking techniques,..this book is a good reference. It's interesting to see how resourceful people were in the past...where they used basic common sense and ingenuity to construct camping equipment. If you are a prepper...this is a good book to take a look at.

Enjoyed reading on camping trips
A good read for the outdoor minded folks with down to earth recipes that go back a very long time. Good way to pass the time when you are stuck in a tent and it's pouring down rain!

How to eat well in the wilderness by a master
An American classic.A companion book to ' Camping and Woodcraft ' written by a man who knew everything about living in the American backwoods. With a few basic ingredients you carry with you, he is able to show you how to make the most out of the wild life and other edibles around you.If you came in with pack animals, with more basic ingredients, you're fit for a feast. He shows you what is possible over a campfire, Dutch oven, or a oven made out of clay.It is also obvious that he liked the good things in life as far as food is concerned. Some of his recipes are for the sort of meals you might feel elaborate prepared at home, let alone in a camp. His writing style is vaguely reminiscent of Elizabeth Davis in that his recipes are often preceded by a preamble or anecdote.

Badly scanned - hard to read
While this is an interesting insight into what was carried into the N.American woods 100 years ago, the text is badly OCR'd and much of the data (packing lists, weight of food per-man, per-day) is presented in tables that are virtually unreadable owing to the line-lengths being chewed-up when scanned into an electronic copy.

Old time camp cooking
This was a thoroughly good read about how camp cooking was done and is no doubt applicable today. I recommend it.
