how do you play the game? what are the basic rules? is it fun?

It is a very simple spin and move spaces game. There are a few cards you have to collect along the way that match your character. My son is 4 and loves it. It is very simple and easy.

What does the game board look like? Is it a map?

It is a winding map over 4 different EcoSystems: The Rainforst, The Desert, the Savanna, and the Ocean.

Do you need to get the power discs to win? It seems weird that you have to stop to get the suit and that's all you need to win. once around & done?

You need one power suit from each area and the corresponding disc and then to get back to Tortuga to win.

$40 for a board game?

I got it cheaper on here years back. It’s not work $40. It’s a cute, normal type board game. Worth about $10.
