The Estwing 22 oz Supreme Rock Hammer (E3-22) is the standard of the geological and rockhounding world. This is the little brother, or is it sister? It's a smaller version of the 22 oz. Maybe Estwing left them out in the rain and they shrank? The right size to carry in a backpack when you're out hiking or camping and don't really expect to use a rock hammer in "anger" (striking rock). With the shorter handle and the lighter head weight you'll need to hit the rock a lot more but you'll have the hammer.

High quality top to bottom
The "Estwing" brand is common in my collection of tools. This hammer is nice, nice, nice! The leather head pouch is nice thick leather and mounts on your belt. Safety goggles are always a must when useing the business end of this hammer. These goggles are decent quality and nothing special but, I am please that safety was included with this package. This hammer will be used time and time again on my many adventures of rock hounding and mineral discovery.

Go for the cheaper nylon grip
the sheath is a 5-star item, it'll hold up for years and years. The hammer gets a 4-star because of slight defect in the handle, mine doesn't absorb the impact like a nylon handle does. The nylon handle grip is cheaper and a better quality, you can sacrifice the neat look.

Missing components that I ordered.
I received just the hammer....without the sheath or goggles. I will be calling the vendor to see what happened to the rest of the order.Also, they just put the hammer in an empty box. Through the shipping process the pointed tip do the hammer penetrated the box.

Husband is a graduate geologist and has been using the same rock hammer he used at Oregon State College back in the 50's. Was pleased to have a new tool and surprised how heavy they are these days. He enjoys exploring the Arizona desert.
