The Pariah

Myth and take
I first read the Pariah in the early eighties and after stumbling across it whilst browsing for a new book, I thought I'd give it another go to see how it stands up to the test of time. From what my memories served I enjoyed this book more than than Graham Masterton's other books at the time. The first thing that you notice is that the story has linked itself to an ancient Mayan myth and true events that occurred in Salem making ideas from the authors imagination all the more plausible, there are small areas of the story that I had difficulty getting my head around but didn't really detract from a well written and interesting story. I do enjoy a good horror and the minor flaws in the Pariah are insignificant when the book grabs your imagination and takes you on a trip to the unknown and undying. The story for me was one of the first horror books I read, time has not tainted the Pariah as it would a movie of this year, if you like a good story along with a bit of unreality you wouldn't go far wrong with The Pariah.

Do yourself a favour and read this book, if you like it, find more of Graham Mastertons books and read them too. It's years since I last read this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it again. Makes you realise why some writers are in a different league!!

This is not one of his best books. I found it became more and more ...
This is not one of his best books. I found it became more and more ridiculous as the story continued. The ending was poor, and many sub-plots were not followed through to conclusion. Sad, as Graham Masterton became one of my favourite authors with "The House That Jack Built", which was brilliant.
