Hal Leonard Tenor Banjo Method

A Nice, general introduction to Tenor Banjo playing
I like that Mr Sokolow uses songs from various styles to demonstrate the Tenor Banjo technique. Most of the technique covered is about accompaniment. The book touches over many different styles of playing without ever exploring a topic in depth and that is why I give 3 stars.

One of the best method books I’ve used
To me, a musical instrument method book is best when it not only teaches theory and technique well, but when it also inspires and builds confidence to apply that knowledge outside of the book. This does just that! The author takes time to introduce various strumming methods, unlocks some new ways approach chord building and progression, integrates scales into the mix, then takes the mystery out of chord melody playing with a great selection of tunes that get incrementally more complex. Because of this great approach, I now have the confidence to build my own chord melody arrangements of just about any tune in just about any key! Highly recommended. It’s also just plain fun playing these great tunes from the Jazz Age.

Excellent
Takes it step by step and even has some tunes with the chords shown as part of the notation so you know what to do with them. Also has the correct chord symbols over the notation so you know what chords you are playing. This leads into learning chord melody and skips the earn 50 chords and "jump right into the deep end" quality of other methods.Wish Hal Leonard would publish more tunes with full notation for tenor banjo.
