Great music!
I think Kalapana was the first mainstream Hawaiian band that really caught on here in the mainland LA area. Back in high school, everyone sang and knew all the words to the songs. Everyone thought they were Malani Bilyeu belting out "what do i do" haha, or trying to sing "moon and stars" to their honeys lol. Oh those were the days and I still have the vinyl, but i re-bought the collection again, kalapana, kalapana2, best of 1 and 2, because there are a few songs you just can't live without on each one of them. If you have to choose between 2 of them, get the Kalapana and Kalapana 2, such classics. Anyways, to me this is like hawaiian pop music, with a little bit of country thrown in there like "lost again". Kalapana was in the C&K era which was way before all this more modern yet traditional hawaiian music like IZ, Keali'i, Ka'au Crater boys, etc... which are great too no doubt, but you'll see that Kalapana has their own style and catchy tunes that are just so sing-along-able lol.

Kalapana rocks
I went to school in Hawaii for a semester in 1976 and this was the big album in the Islands. I bought an LP and brought it back with me but it is long gone the way of other LPs. I ran into an old cassette tape of Kalapana a few months ago and it was like being back in the Islands and younger days. I remembered all the songs and all the words. I had to have this CD! I love the tight harmonies and rhythms of the group. I am kind of surprised how "new age" it sounds considering we had never heard of new age 35 years ago! This is a great album, easy to listen to and even fun to sing along with.

Best Contemporary group of the 70's in Hawaii
I bought this CD specifically to get "Moon and Stars" sung by the lead singer Macky Feary. It is a poignant song from one of the best voices to come out of Hawaii and each time I hear it, I feel a great sadness over his short life. The CD will bring you back in time and remind you where you were with each song. A CD that will remain a classic in Hawaii.

Always liked Kalpana, and this album reminds me why
Kalapna had a very different take on "Hapa haole" music. Very jazzy, Always liked Kalpana, and this album reminds me why. They were unlike other contemporary groups like C and K, Olomana, Beamers, Country Comfort, etc. Distinct vocals and powerful arrangements. Great music!

Took me back to Oahu in '77
Almost the same as the cassette that I wore out, but the cassette had 'Night Bird' on both sides.
