The item arrived packaged well and on time or early. Assembly was very easy. This is a robust well made bin. No sharp edges or hazards that I can see. The surface texture is nice to the touch and the thickness of the plastic is more than adequate. It has a look and feel of quality. The bin stands very steady even when the edal is activated. I anticipate that it will last for a long time and I would buy it again.

Really amazing build quality and soft lid operation. The size is fairly large so make sure you check the measurements before you order. Check others review on how to easily fit the hinge cover.

I’m really pleased with this bin. It’s surprisingly sturdy, and the slim design fits perfectly in smaller kitchen spaces without feeling cramped. The soft-close lid is really smooth and quiet, and the lid lock is a brilliant feature — especially if you have kids or pets. The built-in wheels make it easy to move around when cleaning, and the stay-open lid is really handy when you’re cooking or sorting recycling. It’s also much easier to keep clean compared to cheaper bins I’ve had in the past. Overall, it’s a well-designed, good-quality bin that feels like it’s built to last. Definitely worth it!

When my plastic, no-name brand garbage can died (lid broke), I wasn't sure where to turn. I've wanted a stainless steel garbage can forever since they're built to last, but I didn't want to pay stainless steel prices. Those things can easily reach over $100. Next was the touchless variety, but they're similar in price. Amazon solved my problem yet again. I decided to go with simplehuman for two reasons. 1) I've seen the brand in stores before, and 2) Amazon.com has over 2000+ reviews rated at 4.5 stars. I knew it would at least be "okay." This garbage can has exceeded my expectations. Not only is the price great, it looks sleek, fits any kitchen, and feels well-constructed. It's everything users said it was. •• The Aesthetic •• It's simple and minimalist. I'm happy with the look. One small note is that it picks up dust on the exterior due to the slightly rough plastic finish. You'll need to give it a quick wipe every so often, but... you should be anyway. This thing houses garbage. Regarding the dust, it's no different from any other garbage can I've owned, so it's not worth taking a star away. •• IMPORTANT -- How To Attach The Lid •• Quote from user G. Morgan on Amazon.com: "To put on the lid, you MUST turn it upside down and hold the can at a 40 degree angle with the lid flat to the floor. Push down (one side at a time) until you hear it snap on one side, then snap on the other. It will be extremely difficult to put on the lid any other way. DO NOT FORGET to hook the center piece first before you flip it over." Yeah, I tried attaching the lid pressing from the top down. It really doesn't work. Using G. Morgan's method, I had the lid on in under 30 seconds. Thanks, Amazon reviews :) You might push a side down at first and be like, "Really, lid? You take this much effort to snap in?" But it's really not that bad once the first piece clicks. Be firm, and teach your new garbage can who the true Alpha is. If you're having trouble picturing this, I will include the link to G. Morgan's review in the comment section below my review. •• The Perfect Fitting Garbage Bag •• This is a 40L garbage bin. Brand is unimportant, and you definitely don't need to buy simplehuman's brand just to fit it. Personally, I use Kirkland Smart Fit. You can see in the pictures below my review. The measurements are 60.9cm x 68.5 cm, and they fit PERFECTLY. Anything with the same measurements should do. If you're not familiar with centimeters, other customers use generic 13 gallon trash bags successfully. •• The Foot-pedal and Lid are AWESOME •• At the end of the day, this is a garbage can. You put waste into it. Simple, right? Not for all. The foot pedal on my last can caused the lid to break. The pedal was cheap, and the lid was cheap. The simplehuman pedal feels weighty -- not fragile in the slightest. The lid SLOWLY lowers itself down, reducing potential splatter, and just closing nicely. It makes the experience of attaching it into the clips completely worth it. People remarked about it, but I didn't think I'd care that it slowly lowers. I'm a believer now. It makes a subtle but welcome difference in my daily trash experience. Please note that you can keep the lid up by simply pushing it all the way up. It will stay in place even though there's no audible click. •• Price •• I bought this for $49.99. As I'm writing this, it's at $60 but isn't available for Prime. That means third-party sellers are selling it, not Amazon directly. You shouldn't have to pay more than $50 for this. I guarantee if you keep your eye on it, Amazon will restock it soon. •• Addressing Criticisms •• I'll address a few complaints other Amazon users have had. "The wheels cause the can to slide around when I put things in it." -- In my experience, the wheels haven't caused a sliding issue. I suppose if it's empty, and you're a particularly heavy person, they might. I weigh 145lbs and have what I'd call a gentle foot, so the bin doesn't slide, even when empty. I like the wheels for dragging it across my kitchen when I'm meal prepping and need quick access to the garbage. "The can tips forward when I put things into it." -- Been using it for awhile now and haven't encountered this. Again, if you're heavy, and you stomp the pedal with force... I could see it tipping, I guess. Mine isn't held in place in between counters or anything, it just doesn't move much. I suppose if you put a lot of garbage at the front only, you could cause imbalance, but that's true of any garbage can. I simply haven't been able to confirm this is a problem. "The lock takes two hands to operate." -- I don't see this as a con. Unless you have HUGE hands, yes, it will take two hands to operate. However, this means the lock is sturdy. I don't have dogs who want to get into my trash, but having used the lock in a testing capacity, I can pleasantly state that it feels strong. I couldn't get it open by knocking it over and lifting it roughly. •• Conclusion •• I wish I'd bought this garbage can a long time ago. Instead, I ironically have had to send 3 garbage cans to the garbage dump. Based on the build quality and simplicity of this product, I can see it lasting for many beneficial years without issue. I'll update as time goes by. Overall, I'm very happy with it. 05/29/2019: Two years later, this bin looks brand new and functions as perfectly as they day I bought it. The locking mechanism and pedal are top notch and continue to hold up brilliantly. Very happy? Try super happy.
