First Class Sixties and Surf Instrumentals
Two albums of twelve songs each: "Wipe Out" and "The Surfaris Play." The first album I owned in the Sixties, and the second album was new territory for me (Surf classics). I never exactly considered myself a Surfaris "fan," but I have definitely moved into the fan category after listening to these two albums back-to-back! Fender guitars, bass, drums, a sax, and some keyboard makes this instrumentally lively and infectious listening. The "Wipe Out" album contains Sixties instrumental classics such as "Teen Beat," "Walk, Don't Run," "You Can't Sit Down," and "Wild Weekend." "The Surfaris Play" consists of "Point Panic," "Surfaris Stomp," and Surf instrumentals such as "Baja," "Jack the Ripper," "Miserlou," and "Batman." I came across this CD while looking for some Surf instrumentals. I remembered Dick Dale, the Champs, the Astronauts, and the Ventures, and checked out their CDs first. I'm glad I found this Surfaris double album CD because, for me, it gave me a wide array of songs of the Surf genre that were very well-done. One-stop shopping for someone who enjoys Sixties instrumentals with an emphasis on Surf classics (Of course, "Wipe Out" is the all-time greatest Surfari tune). You can't go wrong with this CD if that's what you're looking for!

No question, a must have for surf instrumental music lovers and players!
A must have for surf instrumental music enthusiasts! Even though the majority of cuts on the Wipeout disc weren't recorded by the hit-making group, they're still great tunes! The second CD is at the pinnacle, along with the Chantays.

The Sufaris gave us some dynamite music, unlike you hear today!!!!!
The Sufaris contributed music that we'll never forget, and the surfing scene it represented. Many people danced to Wipeout, and most did the "Shimmey". The music of this timeperiod made people happy, and want to dance!!!!!! It, also, made you want to look likea surfer, even if you lived in a land-locked state!!!!! Nice to have a CD to enjoy thetalents of this group!!!!!

Keeping the wave alive
Young even by surf band standards (the lead guitarist was 15), The Surfaris are, for me, the most consistently exciting, energetic and infectious act in the instrumental branch of the genre. Their one famous hit, the basic but lively 'Wipe Out' leads off this twofer, but the action never lets up. The Surfaris cover a lot of material better known by other artists here, but they don't worry about staying close to the originals. The results are impressive. They turn 'Memphis Tennessee', for example, from a great r&b song into a great rock and roll instrumental. While it's recognisable as the same composition, they emphasise different aspects of it. Where they score heavily over other bands is in the drum department, with Ron Wilson exhibiting all the power of a sports car. No wonder Keith Moon was a fan. There are occasional songs and one slow number, 'Blue Surf', but they are rare exceptions. Infectious stuff.

Just wanted a copy of Wipeout but got a whole bundle of lively fresh music.
After going to a local concert and listening to some golden oldies from the past I decided I just must have a copy of the wipeout single.I found the original artists (a group of what looked like school kids), and the album so I bought it.The first track is wipeout so that was a great start to the album but while listening to the other tracks, a lot of which are instrumental, I found I was really enjoying it. Not wanting to go into individual tracks but the music was lively, refreshing and great to listen to.In summary a little like the Beach Boys on speed.

outdated albums
Being able to buy, no messing, an album as old as this is brilliant, previously I had to scour junk shops looking for old LP records. Tracking down music like this on Amazon is so easy, web pages set out clearly and so much choice. congrats.

"Wipe Out!" + "The Surfaris Play"
A great two-for-one!! Although the group will be best remembered as a one-hit-wonder,this double set reveals musicianship above the average! Highly commended!
