2013 album of cover versions from the singer/songwriter. When promoting Kendra Morris's debut album, Banshee, Wax Poetics Records released promo-only covers of famous songs like Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game.' Before they knew it, two songs touched two very difference audiences and went viral: Metallica's 'Ride the Lightning' and Pink Floyd's 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond. ' Deciding to release the tracks properly on a full album of only covers, Morris and producer Jeremy Page added some soul songs (like the Stax Records classic 'As Long as I've Got You' by the Charmels, and 'Walk on By,; made famous by both Dionne Warwick and Isaac Hayes), many more Classic Rock tunes ('Miss You' by the Rolling Stones, 'Space Oddity' by David Bowie, and 'Walk on the Wild Side' by Lou Reed), and some more current hits ('Karma Police' by Radiohead and 'Black Hole Sun' by Soundgarden).

Classic Songs with a Classic Sound - Tight, Polished Record
Cover albums, like Christmas albums, usually fall into one of two possible buckets:Bucket 1) The artist, possibly suffering from artistic-concept infertility, sees that she can stay in the public eye and make a lot of money by quickly recording existing songs (some public domain) and selling at a standard retail price.Bucket 2) The artist, humbly inspired by music of a certain time or theme, forgoes her own publishing revenue in an aim to repay (or better yet, pay-it-forward) her predecessors by using creative expression to breathe new life into the songs that can, in essence, claim responsibility for the artist's career in the first place."Mockingbird" is clearly of the latter category.Kendra Morris is a soulful songbird whose albums sound like the score of a Quentin Tarantino film. Her vocal contemporary would probably be the likes of Nikka Costa, and the production echoes the works of producer Adrian Younge (her Wax Poetics label mate). It is a style that will translate to both adults who grew up in the 1960's and today's youth.Listeners will be familiar with her cover of Pink Floyd's "Shine On you Crazy Diamond" which was used in a trailer for the Colin Farrell film 'Dead Man Down', but is epic enough to be the theme song of the next Bond film. Most of the tracks don't stray too far from the original melody and time signature, with the exception of "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" which is almost unrecognizable from the original recorded by the Scottish-twin sensation The Proclaimers. Kendra's interpretation might initially sound shocking, but is undeniably hot.The best cut is her version of Radiohead's "Karma Police" - which, when sung by Kendra, sounds both authentic and introspective (a listener unfamiliar with the original would most assuredly mistake the composition to be her own). And finally, if I could make one final recommendation --- buy this on vinyl.

Worth checking out
Discovered her through a TV show, and man i'm glad i did. This is a cover album full of unique spins on famous songs. Kendra has an amazing soulful voice that's a pleasure to listen to. Since i didn't see it included in the original product details, here's the tracklist.1. Space Oddity 6. Wicked Game 11. Walk On The Wild Side2. As Long As I've Got You 7. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) 12. Black Hole Sun3. Miss You 8. Karma Police 13. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder4. Walk On By 9. Ride The Lightning5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond 10. Cry Me A RiverIt's a great album, and hearing a soul/R&B take on Ride The Lightning was worth the price of the album alone. So much so that i bought her other album "Banshee" as a result. One of my better new music discoveries this year.

Can't get enough of her music
My friend turned me on to both Kendra Morris CD's and I like this one best because of the remakes to old songs that I loved. Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Rolling Stones. Loved their music and now I love Kendra Morris doing her interpretation of them. Easy music to listen to and a good choice for background music.

Great Album!
This album of covers is definitely worth buying. Cry Me a River and Shine on You Crazy Diamond alone are worth the price, but you will enjoy all the covers offered in this album. Kendra Morris is an emerging star--be sure to check out her original album, Banshee. You will be impressed.

Soulful and utterly cool.
Morris' voice is fantastic singing anything but these covers are ridiculously cool. Destined to be played endlessly along side my Florence and Eva Cassidy.

You should listen to all things Kendra Morris. Her voice is amazing and I am ready for her to break big so I can finally see her somewhere near KC! Her spin on covers is fresh and her original tunes are deep.

Phantastisch
