The Sopranos: Season 2
M**E
It's a Family Thing....
The Sopranos is one of HBO's greatest achievements (although I admit that I think it lost some of its momentum and spark with seasons three and four). When I first saw the show, I was hooked. I'd watch anywhere from three to four episodes a day. One of the great things about first watching this show on DVD was that I could watch any number of episodes instead of just watching one per week."The Sopranos: The Complete Second Season" has to be my favorite season. As much as I love the first one, this was when things were really funny, intense, dramatic and involving. The season doesn't let us down when it comes to Tony having more problems than ever before. Both in his Mafia Family and his immediate family, Tony can never get a break. His wife gives him grief while his kids keep doing things that upset him. And don't get me started on his ill mother and self-centered sister. Life isn't much better in his Mafia Family when the brother of Jackie is released from prison and is giving Tony a hard time both personally and professionally. Not to mention that his long time friend, Big P. comes back from a long hiatus when he was first suspected of turning rat to the Feds. All of this leads to one incredible and unpredictable season that showcases the show like none other. For me, this was the most entertaining season of them all. I loved the characters, the constantly changing storylines, and the personal and business life of Tony Soprano, which is superbly balanced in this season. There's still the much appreciated humor in these episodes that were found lacking in the next two seasons. It doesn't feel like a soap opera, but a more enhanced look into the Mafia world. There's plenty of action as well as dramatic storylines that will make everybody happy for the most part. This season comes in a set of four discs, totaling at 13 episodes. The great thing about the show is that it is presented to us in a widescreen format that is enhanced for widescreen TVs. This really makes the show that more effective because you feel like you're actually watching a movie rather than a show on cable. The picture and sound quality is great and really shows. There are some nice little extras, such as featurettes, brief previews and recaps of episodes, web-links and more."The Sopranos: The Complete Second Season" is a bundle of laughs, suspense, drama, action and surprises. You're always on your toes and you never know what's coming next. One thing's for sure; this is the most unpredictable season out of the four seasons (the fifth one looks pretty promising thus far). While you'll want to start with the first season if you've never seen the show before, you'll know that you will have something special to look forward to once you get to the second season. In my opinion, this is where Sopranos is flawlessly at its best. -Michael Crane

The price was good, however some of the episodes do not play. We have tried multiple DVD players and nothing. Not impressed

Ups the ante
With season 2, The Sopranos takes the formula they successfully developed in season 1 and really notches it up.While the foundation of fun characters is great, fundamentally I think the improvement has to do with a slight toning down of the comic element (it's still there, just slightly muted), and a concentration on the mob aspects at slight expense of Tony's maternal and psychiatric relationships. It's not to say that any major elements changed, the writers merely tuned up the balance. The mob stuff is great this time around. First of all, we have a lot more violence. It actually feels pretty real. This underscores a fundamental aspect of the show, in that we are made to become very fond of a bunch of "cold hearted killers." I'm not personally sure that this is unrealistic because everyone's the hero in their own story. In any case, there are some great episodes here.I particularly enjoyed "Commendatori" in which Tony, Chris, and Pauli go to Napoli for a little pow-pow with some old country gangsters. Having spent some time in Naples, this is extremely well handled, showing off that ancient city's blend of violence, seediness, and beauty. "D-Girl," is another really fun episode. This is predominantly a Christopher show, and in the first season his subplots were dull, but maybe it's just living in Hollywood, or perhaps that I know Jon Favreau myself (he's a friend of a friend), but I found it sexy and amusing.A few new characters spice things up. I'm not that big a fan of Tony's sister Janice, but Richie Aprile is awesome. Channeling a very short Al Pacino, he's quite a character. This couple follow in Tony's Ma's tradition of stirring up trouble, both serious and comic. It all gets a little twisted -- particularly his mafioso-style bedroom fetish.Particularly in the first half of the season, there isn't much for Dr. Melfi to do, and during the second she arcs in a way I didn't find realistic. Family life and relationships are still paramount, but juicing up the crime intensity a bit, I felt improved the balance, moving things closer to the modern HBO style of great writing, great action, and shock.

Bought season 1 for my husband for Christmas and he enjoyed it so much I thought I'd treat him to season 2. Started off with the first disc and found it had scratches on it. I quickly opend up my Amazon account and set about to inform them of the defect. I found it so easy to print off a return slip(which Amaon pays for)and reorder the DVD. They sent it out next day delivery with no extra charge. I'm well aware that the defect was no fault of Amazons but I'm so pleased they back their products. Thank you Amazon for your great service.

Great show
I am a big fan of mob movies and tv shows, and this was one of the best. The writing was so good, and the show was perfectly cast.I especially enjoyed the late Nancy Marchand as Tony's evil mother,Livia Soprano.I was able to find this at a rock bottom price here on Amazon, and the discs were in great shape for being used.I will definitely be buying more seasons from Amazon.Very happy.

Fingerprint crime scene
I've ordered many items from Amazon but this Sopranos season 2 was covered in finger prints the worst I've ever seen.Item was listed as good... not used as a coaster. And disc 2 only 1 episode works the rest of the disc skips horribly.
