I find the transcriptions very adequate...
These six albums are from the dawn (almost) of the stereo era. Starting in 1958 we were introduced to stereo on LP. The big guns...RCA, Columbia, & Capital...dominated the market. By the early '60's small "upstarts" were appearing Audio Fidelity (who actually had the first published stereo LP), Command, and Everest. The latter two used magnetic tape that was 35mm wide (instead of 1/4" or 1/2") to achieve better signal to noise ratios. But in the beginning of stereo the rule was "percussion or Russian" for demonstration quality recording. These six albums in one are from the school of 35mm recording using lots of percussion (especially high frequencies like triangles...or low frequencies like bass drum or tympani) to show off the "brilliance" of the recording. Being from the beginning of stereo, the recordings are very directional to show off the stereo "effect" as well. Of these, I owned only the Great Film Themes album on LP when it came out. Eventually Command records would also release classical albums (most with Steinberg/Pittsburgh Symphony) which really were some of the best sounding productions of the time. However, over 50 years on, well-processed CD's (even Super CD's) of RCA's Living Stereo series sound just as well done, technically. So, bottom line, these six albums were intended more for their stereo demonstration qualities rather than their music content (which is variable). I find these CD's to be well-processed but there is really no documentation about whether they were mastered from the original 35mm masters or not (my guess is not since 35mm required custom players). Everest & Mercury both had CD's on the market which are from 35mm Masters (and they custom built or restored 35mm players to process them) and, in general, those productions from original 35mm masters really are marginally superior (technically) from other contemporary productions. I'm glad I bought this CD set if only as a souvenir from a bygone era of recording.===============Addendum: after listening for a while I believe these recordings are "up to standard" and they really are enjoyable in a 1960's early stereo sorta way...which isn't to say that the sound quality is in any way inferior to what might be recorded today. AND they are so clean that they might actually have been mastered from the original 35mm tapes...but, again, no documentation one way or the other.

Missing CD-Text
The music on the three CDs is fine and worth having. What I object to is that the CD-Text information is missing on two and is in all caps on the third. It makes me wonder about quality control at the manufacturer. It's frustrating not to have access to the name of the song you're hearing.

Good Set
A very well done compilation of eight Martin Denny albums. Reasonably good packaging; but a true jewel case boxed set would be better. For $12; it is a bargain.

Superb Sound!!
Excellent CD. A great sample of the sound of the 50's and early 60's. The stereo recording of this music full of percussion effects is superb! I recommend to purchase "Black Magic" (Stanley Black) and "Persuasive Percussion" (Enoch Light) to complete a fantastic trilogy of stereo (Real stereo!!!) of this type of music.

I'd avoid this one if I were you
Very disappointing. I was led to believe that Enoch Light's Roaring Twenties albums were included in this set and they are not. Sometimes the advertising on Amazon regarding content could be more specific. The sound quality is poor, very tinny. This is definitely elevator music at its worst. I hope Enoch Light's "Roaring Twenties" can come out on CD. One of the tracks was on the soundtrack of the Movie "Midnight in Paris."

The album repertoire are all from the well known old titles composed mainly of percussion instruments. Although the music are nostalgic and reminiscent of the days gone by, the recording could do with some improved tonal balance and improved sound quality.
