are the balls the same size as lacrosse balls? And how firm are the balls?

The 6.3 has (4) 6.3 cm solid rubber balls and the 7.0 has (4) 7.0 cm solid rubber balls. The balls have good compression, a little less firm that a lacrosse ball. Let us know if you have more questions.

i'm 5'8", weigh in around 142lbs, male and have a piriformis syndrom issue on my left side. My P.A. recommended these. What is the size to order?

Either size would work but if you like a more intense roll, the smaller 6.3 is best. The balls are smaller so gets deeper into the tight spots. The 7.0 works very well for this area too and covers more area due to the larger balls. just depends on the intensity you like. Hope this helps!

How much does this weigh?

Not heavy. It's just two tennis balls with a well made cover. Helps loosen up my hurting shoulder.
