Picture shows 18oz equals 500 ml which equals 2 cups. That is not accurate. Why do the graduation marks line up incorrectly?

Because the manufacturer goofed! I purchased a cup and can verify your description matches the cup. Not seen, the bottom marking on the cup has a 1/4 cup mark lining up with 50ml--also inaccurate. I have limited means of testing the volume but it in my rough test, the ounce markings appear accurate but cup and ml markings are wrong.

Can this be used for melting wax?

I am not the technical specialist to give you a professional answer, you should contact the manufacturer. But I could say, NO, the material used is not like the Pirex glass. It is a beautiful material, but I don't think it supports a constant "high" temperature like the one produced by melted wax. This product is something more simple, like to be a help in the kitchen or something at this level of use. Not a "commercial" like melting wax.
