The connector is worth the price admission. Seriously.
PLEASE NOTE: Review of the transmitter follows this review of the camera! :)There is obviously a lot of rebranding going in the backup camera department here on Amazon, and believe me when I say I have tried many of them. This particular Auto-Vox unit stands out in multiple ways - so much so I felt compelled to post a review to help steer people this way and hopefully avoid the disappointment I've previously experienced.First, understand this is not a $500 backup camera. That said, its low price is quite deceptive - it's better than backup cameras costing several times as much. Trust me, I tried them too. Everything about this camera is thoughtful: The bracket has a rib for ridigity that others do not. The actual mount for the camera is just a piece of metal, whereas other cameras use a hinge. At first you'd think that makes it less functional BUT those hinged models are poorly assembled and vibrate loose over time, requiring constant adjustment or sometimes removal and tightening. Once you gently bend this bracket where you need it to be, it stays. But, here is the KEY ELEMENT that makes this assembly better: Auto Vox thoughtfully provides a tiny 4-pin connector to mate this camera to its wiring harness instead of using common RCA and DC jack connectors - that means if you're drilling you only need to drill a tiny hole (1/4" IIRC) instead of some massive hole to pass an RCA connector through. THAT'S HUGE.In terms of performance, I compared this camera against another slightly more expensive color camera and a SLEW of black and white cameras equipped with both IR LEDs and white LEDs for night vision. During the day, this camera at least as good and possibly better than more expensive color cameras, and tangibly better than the B&W cameras - adding color to the mix helps you spot obstacles more easily than fishing out detail in a B&W image. B&W is great for security cameras where you're sitting still watching things happen, but for backup cameras where you are looking for obstacles rather than motion, your eye identifies color much more quickly than shape. At night, the low-light sensitivity is totally adequate, perhaps not quite as good as more expensive color cameras but absolutely equal to ALL the LED-assisted B&W cameras I tested. It's worth mentioning that my application is a 32' long motorhome - this camera is mounted up near the roof to get a view of the full width of the vehicle, and even with just reverse lights 8' away from this camera the view at night is FINE. On a car, where the camera and the reverse lights are much closer together the view would likely be great. The wide viewing angle is legit - the motorhome is over 8' wide and I can see both ends of the rear bumper. That's a big deal for me, and in fact the entire reason I bought a camera. The rear mirrors are fine for broad positioning, but I can't see the first 6' behind the bumper. This camera fully solves that issue, allowing me to back right up to a wall or a pole without fear. For what it's worth, I tried this camera on the strength of Auto Vox's wireless transmitter, which I am also using. it was so good I threw their camera into the testing mix and I have zero regrets. It's just a very nice setup, the price makes it unbeatable. I will likely pick up another one of these to use on my 22' long Cadillac limo... which is probably even worse to back up due to tiny windows and mirrors! :)UPDATE: Kind of annoying that Amazon has linked the camera and the wireless transmitter into one product, so here's the score on the transmitter to go with my review of the camera:I have to admit right away that my application for this transmitter was not as intended. Power comes from a cigarette lighter which was not useful to me, so after verifying it worked I took it apart, sawed off the end, soldered wires onto the pads, and then installed it. The upside of this was that, while apart, I had the opportunity to check out the insides. Let me just say, this setup is FAR SUPERIOR to competitively priced ones. The packaging is superior, the PCB is assembled better, and it has proper internal shielding - most of the others are just slim boxes epoxied around surface mount components. It's not even a comparison. Additionally, the transmitter in this kit uses a real antenna rather than an inch long piece of wire hanging out. Yes, it takes up more space but the results are worth it. Most of the other kits required me to mount the pieces in specific spots to get a decent picture, but across a 32' long motorhome I was not able to upset this pair. I ended up with the transmitter mounted under the bed and the receiver mounted behind the TV in front - that's a solid 28' of airspace going through wood and an LCD with zero degradation. Completely stoked about it. Although I did not need it, the receiver even has a dedicated monitor trigger to switch inputs on your display automatically. Like the camera itself, this whole package is really thoughtful. Well done Auto Vox.

Camera is good, but became hazy after about 2 years
The camera was easy to install with a new head unit. Biggest hassle was running the wires because the truck didn't previously have the wiring in place. Easy connection and setup otherwise using Sony head unit. The camera picture quality was fine and ok at night (I added LED backup lights which really helps!). But the camera became foggy over time and I replaced it with the same one. I didn't want to run the long wires again, so I soldered these 4 tiny wires in the installed condition. Pretty difficult but doable. Let's see how long till this one becomes cloudy.

Great camera! One issue.
The camera is amazing, it provides great image quality. Don't worry about the resolution seeming so low, it will look great on your little monitor or radio. The only issue is that on trucks where the plate is on the bumper (very low) it is hard to get a useful image out of and the FOV does really contribute to that. On step bumpers, you may not step on it, but people who don't have trucks will!!! Learned this the hard way when a friend of mine stepped down on it and then I also learned that the camera can rotate. I had to sit there for a few minutes and try to line up the camera to be level to the ground then straighten the bracket. Cheapy design for the mount, but if you do not have a pickup, then this camera is perfect for you.

Backup Camera and Monitor/Mirror Installation
This review is for the Auto-Vox Cam 6 license plate camera and T1400 rearview mirror with monitor. The system works well for our intended purpose and has only been installed for a few weeks. Once I finally got it installed, it looks almost like factory installation. Video is good in daylight and at night in lighted areas. Video is not very good but passable in the dark. On sunny days it can be difficult to see the video because of glare and reflections on the mirror, and if the sun is directly behind the vehicle, the video is washed out. This system is not as good as the manufacturer’s rearview video system that I have on a different vehicle, but this is a good aftermarket capability for the money. Most of my comments relate to installation of the system. I installed this system in my 2011 RAV4. I do not recommend do-it-yourself installation of this system if you are a novice. It took me 4 long afternoons to complete the installation, not including several hours looking on the internet for ideas on how to route the wires, how to remove interior trim without destroying it, and the best place to get my trigger signal. Now that I have done it once, I could probably do it in half the time or less if I was inclined to do another one, or if I was less finicky about hiding wires and making reliable connections. Here are a few things to think about before installing it yourself:The included interconnect diagrams are pretty skimpy. You or a friend should be comfortable with reading and understanding electrical interconnect diagrams and be able to figure out information that might be assumed, but not shown on the diagram.Do a bench test of the camera and monitor as a system before installing it. You don’t want to get it installed and then wonder why it doesn’t work. Bench test only takes 15-30 minutes. The rearview mirror/monitor instructions strongly recommend use of a relay in later model cars to ensure that you have stable video, but a relay is not included in the kit. Having read reviews where the user complained of jumpy and noisy video, I bought a relay and installed it. I have had no jumpy or noisy video problems. The mirror kit includes a 6-inch wire jumper with a fuse on it. There are no instructions for its use. It plugs into an empty spot in the fuse block and provides power to the relay/camera/monitor.I had to buy extra wire to get power from the fuse block over to where I installed the relayYou need to be comfortable with soldering wires and/or using crimp splices.Except for the 6-inch fused wire jumper, kit wires are 24 or 26 gauge and are too small to handle, solder, crimp, or strip without taking extra care. The connectors included with the camera and rearview mirror/monitor are nice and small and seem pretty sturdy. The included camera cable (with small connector on the end) was too short to get past the rear door hinge and enclosed cable bundle between the door and the body of my car. It would have been nice if it was 3 feet longer for my installation.Mounting of the camera to the back of the license plate was simple. I had to bend the camera bracket slightly to get it to point in the right direction. The included rearview mirror/monitor cable was just barely long enough to get from the mirror to the floor. The mirror itself installed very quickly and easily and looks nice. The mirror kit includes a few adapter plates and an allen wrench. Mine installed with the adapter that was already on the mirror.

Works great
First one came defective but the seller took care of everything and sent me a replacement at no cost to me.

Wires were too short for a Ram crew cab. Had to extend them
Not a great design for a truck as the camera mounts on the license plate. It’s only a matter of time before someone kicks it or steps on it

I like it but this is NOT QUITE an IP68 waterproof system.
I've just purchased my 2nd AutoVox Cam 6. The first I purchased last summer and install was a breeze. The camera worked great. In the fall when the wet weather hit, the camera started to get flaky and finally gave out. Even though the camera might be IP6 waterproof, but the control box that gets mounted is NOT. For installation in my truck this box had to be mounted outside the vehicle and rain and salt from the roads eventually killed it. Moister ingress comes via the little switch to turn parking guidelines off and on. So the camera was fine but the box was not so I bought another Cam6 and just reinstalled the box and 20' video cable (which is 95% of the installation) and just used the original camera since it was okay. I was just mindful to tape the hell out of the little plastic switchbox this time. Too bad I had to buy the entire system because I only wanted the little box part.Still...i liked it enough to go with it again..

Très bonne qualité d'image
Service rapide.
