Product Description This exquisitely crafted coming of age tale follows a pair of Latina teens who fall gradually in love against the backdrop of East L.A. Beautiful, honest film about falling in love
I adore this film. Absolutely adore it. So much so that I immediately went looking to buy the DVD.Simply put, this understated film follows the path of two girls who become friends and then fall in love. They don't know what to do with that - it's clear that a public relationship isn't an option - but they never question what they're feeling. There are so many things to appreciate, be it the cinematography, the delicate way the director approaches being a questioning/queer teen trying to decide if you think that girl is just *really* cool or maybe she's the the love of your life. The main characters have actual, non-cardboard cut out lives, real parents and real struggles. In this film lead by people of color, the main characters are depicted as they should be - children first - followed by the reality that they are immigrants/first generation children growing up in a world that doesn't quite have a place for them. The representation in this film is amazing. I think the entire cast is Latinx and unlike many films featuring marginalized groups, the main characters have belongings, a place to live and friends who aren't also conveniently in a gang.I cannot praise this film enough. I am grateful that it got made and hope that members of the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities can watch a film that humanizes the experience of searching for belonging and stability in a place that doesn't feel like it was meant for them.

This film is fantastic.
As a queer Latina, I eagerly awaited the release of this film. It did not disappoint. This female-directed feature is beautiful and had me in tears by the end. So many Hollywood films and television shows reduce Latin@s to stereotypes; this, on the other hand, did everything right. It felt true and was both sweet and sad, while never becoming sentimental. One note for people who don't speak Spanish, though, is that some of the dialogue is in Spanish, so you'll have to deal with subtitles. (The only reason that I mention this is that I know that some people don't like subtitles, though, personally, I don't think that's enough of a reason to miss this gem.) All in all, I cannot praise this enough.

Great coming of age films
This is one of those films that when it ends you feel you want more. We enter the world of two teenage girls growing up in LA. One comes from a strong intact family that wants to see their daughter succeed and the other is being raised by a struggling single mother. There are no "declaration of love" or "love scenes". The movie did not need it. The story felt more real and honest about how two people start to recognize the feelings of love for each other. But, being young one is not sure what to do about it. I highly recommend this movie.

Queer Latinx representation FTW!
Mosquita Y Mari is one of my favorite LGBTQ+ films. Not only is the cast completely Latinx, the story is realistic and the performances were well acted. I loved the local feel to the film which kept it grounded and I loved how Yolanda and Mari's relationship unfolds over time. The ending was perfect and thankfully a happy one lol.

A poignant first outing
I'm not sure what I expected from the story line, but the ending was a bit out-of-step with the rest of the movie, I thought. Other than that, stellar acting performances from the two young leads...worth watching.

Perfect
From the very beginning, this film held my attention. Every note was perfect, the writing, the story, the directing, the acting. An honest story told beautifully. The dialogue was well done, but it was almost unnecessary, so great is the director at evoking emotion through simple images. Few films with lesbian main characters reach this level. It's no wonder the director, Aurora Guerrero, was named one of the "25 New Faces of Independent Film." I'm looking forward to her next film.

Soundtrack ok and chemistry of characters ok but on the whole I was fast forwarding a lot as it was a lot of slow boring nothing
Slow and not a lot happens! Soundtrack ok and chemistry of characters ok but on the whole I was fast forwarding a lot as it was a lot of slow boring nothingness and didn't really get across the lesbian love aspect as well as loving Annabelle. Watchable but will also be going to charity shop as its really 2 teenagers messing about in cars and bikes not a lesbian first love kinda film at all as no progression to anything. Very flat ending and pointless. Total crap but watchable!
