Naturally, drilling through the natural stone took longer, but the barrel cut through the stone smoothly and with ease. With an extension attached, I was able to drill 24" deep clean holes.It's worth noting that this is a wet-cut-only barrel. Where possible, get a garden host attachment for your core drill to keep the water moving. It keeps dust and temperature down and also continuously flushes the cutting surface to maintain a clean surfance for the teeth.The bit still looks great. No damage to the teeth and wear appears minimal. I trust it will cut many more holes.

A real workhorse, it just keeps cutting … excellent bit for the money.

I Needed to drill through 8 inches of a granite stone for a 1 inch pipe. I kept cold water on during the drilling and the bit stayed nice and cool. It took some time ( about 40-45 minutes ) I bought an adapter to use with my drill but the threads were not long enough for the bit ( the Threads don't start at the top so 1 star deduction for that ). Luckily I also have a cordless Milwaukee grinder that fit perfectly. The grinder worked great and I was able to put a lot of pressure on it too without any overheating. I went through 4 batteries ( 5ah each ). I could have used a hammer drill and star bit for MUCH faster results but it would have blown out the rock on the other side. As other have said , you need to start the hole at about a 45 degree angle and then straighten up. The bit has plenty of life left too! Great drill bit.

Answer is NO. I tried a regular drill and a regular hammer drill but become extremely frustrated quickly. The long pilot bit is really critical for when you get stuck deep in the hole. Get the core bit back out and send the pilot bit through several times.Other important tips:* Use the hammer mode. I know it says all over this page not to do that but I couldn't make any progress with out it. Used hammer mode and everything was fine, drill bit is still in great shape.* Lots of water. I would drill 10 seconds, spray tons of water, then drill another 10 seconds and so on.* Drill lots of pilot holes. If you get stuck just drill a bunch more little holes and break out some of the pieces stuck in there.* Don't let brick build up inside the core bit. Always shake it out or pound it out before you collect too much which can cause the bit to get stuck.$300-$350 worth of equipment to drill holes is a bargain compared to what I was quoted.Have fun!
