SABRENT USB 3.0 Tool-Free Enclosure for 2.5” and 3.5”

This is an enclosure to take a 3.5" HDD and allow it to be connected via USB.The drive has a 12V DC centre-positive barrel jack to power it, and connects via a USB Type-B connector.Whilst Type-B is pretty uncommon, a Sabrent-branded USB-B male to USB-A male cable is included, and it feels like an extremely high-quality cable.The enclosure itself is made of metal, and it's pretty thick too - the entire thing feels very strong and sturdy.There are holes in the back of the device, however there is so little room around a 3.5" HDD that airflow is going to be basically non-existent anyway.The metal design does make the device better for heat dissipation than other enclosures I have used though.Getting a HDD in might look difficult as there's not too much room, however I found it very easy to get my drive in, and I didn't feel like I was doing anything that could damage my drive at all.The enclosure also has four four screw holes in its sides so that you can screw in the HDD to keep it fixed in place, and screws and a small screwdriver are included with the drive - Note that the enclosure includes four screws of both 6-32 UNC and M3.This is fantastic, as I really dislike enclosures where the drive can rattle around inside the enclosure, as that can weaken or break the SATA connectors - that can't happen here, the Sabrent enclosure holds the drive perfectly.There is also a dedicated power switch on the end of the device next to the power input, which is fantastic.I really like this, as you can push it into somewhere such that only the end is accessible, or stack several enclosures on top of each other, and still have full control.There is a button on the top of the device that has what looks to be a power symbol on it, but it isn't a power button. Instead pushing that is what allows you to slide the top cover off and open the enclosure. I feel a better symbol could have been chosen, but once you know what it does it's fine, and since the drive inside is screwed in it's not like it can fall out when you take the cover off or anything.Since I was using a mechanical hard drive, I wasn't able to max out the USB 3.0 connection, but the enclosure was able to keep up with HDD doing 200MB/s for the 43 hours it took me to do a full write+read cycle on the drive I had inside.The enclosure did get very hot during this time, hotter than my other enclosures, but that's obviously good - it's better the enclosure gets hot because it's actually dissipating heat from the drive inside and keeping it cool, rather than the enclosure staying cool because the drive inside it can't dissipate heat and thus the drive gets extremely hot.The enclosure does have an LED activity light, which will blink constantly if the drive is active. I personally found this to be quite annoying, and would prefer a constant light rather than a blinking one.I would like to see versions of this with a USB-A and USB-C connector rather than the uncommon USB-B, but other than the blinking activity LED and the poor choice of symbol on the enclosure opening button, I really can't find any faults with it.Overall, I paid £31 for this enclosure, which is a lot for a HDD enclosure, but as far as enclosures go it's basically perfect.

Excellent bit of kit, it looks good and performs well. Absolutely no issues setting up or using.

My only bugbear with it is that the AC adapter obscures a parallel socket on my multiway.

Great item, works well. Had problems with other 3.5” HDD cases which fail after a couple of weeks.The installation of the drive is fairly straight forward, my only gripes with it are the LED indicator is a button which secures the drive carriage in the metal housing still leaves the drive carriage loose, also it doesn’t have any feet to stop it sliding off the table / desk, I ended up getting a pack from Amazon. The speed of the drive is fairly good (max=196Gb/s). Only time will tell how it performs and how reliable the case is.

Works perfectly, fast enough for what I use it for (backing up documents and other such files) just remember you actually need to by a HDD cause this is an external casing, my HDD fit perfectly in it, its a size which you probably wouldnt carry about with you on a trip but you could.

I am very pleased with the purchase.The 3.5" HDD fits easily into the small, metal enclosure.It looks good and is smaller than my other HDD enclosure.It is nice to know that it would also be suitable for a 2.5" SSD (at a later date).I wanted a HDD for my new PC which only had a SSD drive. I did not want to open up the PC to add the drive internally (yet) as this could invalidate the warranty.

Under powered for 7200rpm drives and interferes with 2.4Ghz wifi. On top of running the drive far too hot as there's no air flow in the case. I was hoping for something both impressive and "does the job" given Sabrent are a reputable brand. However, I found quite a few flaws with trying to use this enclosure.Using a 7200rpm drive, ended up with the enclosure (or the PSU) just not providing it enough juice. So the drive would often disconnect and reconnect, once it got to the point of trying to run anything approaching "heavy" writes to it. Maybe for slower drives, it might be fine, but not so good in my experience. The same drive worked fine in a UGREEN enclosure and all SMART checks passed fine!When I first setup the enclosure too, I happened to place it near our wifi access point that broadcasts a 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz wifi networks. Almost immediately after turning it on, we noticed some smart-home gadgets started acting up or going offline. It wasn't until I turned the enclosure off, just on a whim, that the 2.4Ghz wifi that these smart-home gadgets used became usable again and they all came back online.The drive when in the case, it's a very tight fit too and the case runs really hot as a result. I was going to return just because of this concern as I didn't want to risk causing heat damage to the drive. But given the power/disconnect problem and the wifi interference, were the absolute final straws.Returned for a full refund, and will just buy another UGREEN enclosure.

Agréablement surpris par la qualité de l'article. Ayant tester plusieurs boitiers hhd externe, celui-ci est vraiment de qualité supérieure et est très bien conçu. Possibilité de visser son disque dur au boitier et bien sûr le bouton de fermeture du boitier qui a fait que j'ai acheté cet article.Chargeur de qualité, idem pour les cables, support plastique dans un boitier aluminium (excellent contre l'électricté statique et le refroidissement).Reçu 2 jours après ma commande.Que du bon pour cet article, merci.

Das Produkt ist sehr leicht und lässt sich gut transportieren. Die neue 22 TB WD Red Pro Sata Festplatte brauchte nur initialisiert werden und war dann sofort einsatzbereit. Die Daten wurden mit einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 100 MB/s geschrieben, zu hören war dabei gar nichts, absolut laufruhig und leise. Das Gehäuse macht einen guten Eindruck, die Festplatte passt haargenau hinein und hat null Spiel. Ich habe 3 TB über Nacht übertragen, dürfte um die 8 Stunden gedauert haben. Zur Haltbarkeit kann ich noch nichts sagen, es war der erste Einsatz. Klare Kaufempfehlung und 5 Sterne.

No es necesario gastar más dinero.El disco va atornillado en una estructura plástica con ciertas holguras a su alrededor. Esta estructura va dentro de la caja de aluminio, quedando 1 mm de aire entre el disco y la carcasa.Lleva toma USB B 3.0 en el lado de la caja y USB A 3.0 en el lado del PC. Una clavija de alimentación estándar de 12V 2A para poder alimentar discos mecánicos de 7200 rpm de hasta 22 TB. Incluye un interruptor de corriente.La carcasa de aluminio se calienta muchísimo, lo cual es normal porque estos discos consumen lo suyo y necesitan disipar el calor, aunque según el fabricante consuman solo 6W en reposo y 7,5 W en funcionamiento. (Este dato parece increíble, cuando todas las cajas y discos van acompañados de fuentes de alimentación de al menos 24W y producen temperaturas altísimas).En el botón para desbloquear la apertura de la caja se incluye una luz led muy molesta por su elevada potencia y continuo centelleo. Está bien algo que indique el funcionamiento, pero debería ser más tenue y poder apagarse.Lo puedo recomendar para discos mecánicos por el precio, incluso para algunos SSD hasta 600 MB/sg. Sin embargo, las conexiones deberían ser USB C 3.2 y admitir trasferencias de 10 GBps. E incluir alguna rejilla que facilite la dispación de calor. La caja es algo ruidosa, pero eso ya lo sabe todo el mundo que use discos duros CMR grandes a 7200 rpm como los usados en NAS y centros de datos.Recomiendo rejilla de ventilación como las usadas en cocina para enfriar bizcochos. Si se coloca la carcasa encima se facilita la ventilación y se evita que se caliente mucho el mueble, con el riesgo de incendio que esto conlleva por las temperaturas que adquieren los discos duros.Le pongo 5 estrellas, pero admite mejoras: Todo metálico, usb c 3.2 de 10 gbps, almohadillas que mitiguen el ruido, poder apagar el led luminoso, patas de goma para no calentar los muebles donde se coloca...Amazon muy bien. Me ha llegado en el mismo día en que hice el pedido.Lo peor, el alimentador eléctrico. No está fabricado para Europa, sino que viene con adaptador.
