Big rugs, YES. Small rugs, NO.
I got this to hold down four rugs in my house - one in the entry, one in the kitchen, and two in the bathroom. The rug in the entryway is a big, round one - something like 4' in diameter- and is on carpet. The one in the kitchen is for a normal sized rug and is on tile. And the last two are in the batroom and are normal dormat sized rugs in front of the sinks, on carpet (yes, I know, carpet in the bathroom). The large rug by the entrance and the two in the bathroom have the rubber side facing up and the twill facing down so that it can grip the carpet. The entrance rug doesn't have a lot of traffic and it is big so it pretty much never moves. Previously with the rug by itself the cats and the small amount of traffic would push the rug around so for this use I'd call the rug pad a win. For the two in the bathoom they get a lot of traffic and not just teh traffic that walks over it. The traffic it gets is more of the type whee people walk up to the sink and jam/shuffle their feet to stop at the sink. In general these rugs do not hold their place and end up half crumpled under the sink. However with that said, prior to the mats being installed the rugs were completely crammed under the sink. Now they are only half crumpled. Half win. Maybe if I sewed the pads to the rug it would do better. The rug in the kitchen is in a similar situation as the bathroom rugs. This particular rug is situated in front of the fridge so it too receives that same jam/shuffle stop for people accessing the firdge. This pad is with the rubber side down and the felt side up. This rug probably does the worst and is no improvement. This is partially because it is in the highest traffic area of the entire house but also because it receives that slamming stop (which until there is enough pressure on the mat to grab both the floor and the mat, it will slide). Furthermore, because the mat is slightly thicker it makes it sit a little higher which makes it easier to kick by just walking by.In conclusion I think that this is a good product in the right circumstances. The right circumstances is when the mat can be palced under a rug that is big enough that you can more than one step on. This allows the rug to be "trapped" between the felt and rugger side and the floor and when you take another step on the rug the other foot is essentially "anchoring" the rug by the aformentioned friction. Anything smaller will have a hover effect until enough pressure is put on the rug. So if you have a big area rug or a hallway runner or something then this may be a very good choice for you; if you have something smaller like a doormat sized rug then I might consider something else to hold your rugs firm.

very happy!!
This rug pad is very well made and does its job. I am very happy with it. What makes me love it even more ITS MADE IN THE U.S.A!!! I am going to purchase another one for our bedroom guest. Definitely recommend this to anyone!***Update***I want to update my first review and make buyers beware. I originally bought this rug pad for my mother and my actual review still stands as the product has held up well. We just recently moved into a new home and I decided to buy new rug pads. I looked through my old orders from Amazon looking for this specific order and re-ordered this rug pad for us. The rug pad that I received was not at all like my mothers. This pad is just a thin cloth rug pad. Buyers make sure that the rug pad u receive has a soft side and a rubbery anti- slip slide. If it does not like me you received the wrong pad. I ended up keeping the pad simply because I would have to pay to ship it back and it was to much of a hassle.

Rug on carpet - no buckling at all, but very slight movement
I don't know if it's even realistic to expect no movement at all from a rug that's on carpet, but using this rug pad, there is very little movement at all. Most important though, is there is absolutely no buckling or rippling, which is a tripping hazard and can be dangerous. The rug this is on, is in our carpeted bedroom alongside our bed. There is no furniture sitting on the rug, so the only thing keeping it in place is this rug pad.Every week or so, I notice about an inch of the rug pad peeking out from under the rug. The rug pad hasn't moved, but the rug has just worked its' way off a bit.Very easy to just tug it back into place. Our rugs on hardwood all have furniture sitting on them, so I don't know if I can attribute the movement of our bedroom rug to the fact that it's on carpet, or because there's no furniture on it. Whatever the reason, the movement is minimal, there is no buckling and no tripping danger, and I am very pleased and satisfied.

an improvement
Purchased to go under area rug in camper (full timers), as the rug bunches up from movement. It doesn't 100% fix the issue but is greatly improved & the best solution so far.

Perfect for our 8 x 10 oval braided rug
The rubber/felt rug pad is perfect for our 8 x 10 oval braided rug that rests on a newly refinished hardwood floor. Without the rubberized/felt rug pad, the rug moved all over the floor creating a hazardous situation. The new pad is thick and was easy to cut with scissors. We traced the outline of the oval rug onto the pad with a Sharpie pen and cut inside the tracing by 1-2 inches. The pad creates a very comfortable feel to the braided rug. The rug doesn't slip off the pad and the pad stays in place on the slippery floor. We also did not detect an odor with the new pad. Why the 4 star rather than 5 star rating? It took a while for a large crease in the folded pad, as it was shipped, to relax and lay flat. I was worried that it wouldn't but within a week it did.

this really works!
We have an oriental rug about 10 by 12 feet on a hardwood floor. We tried other things to keep the rug from moving. I mean, we could position the rug where we wanted it and then it would move by the next day. I read the reviews on this rug pad and checked out the local hardware stores but this was a better deal and really, I could read the reviews and make up my mind. It took me about one week of this rug moving and ordered this rug pad and was extremely pleased. First, the speed in which it was delivered and then the packaging was also very appropriate - not alot of "stuff" to get to the product, if you know what I mean. So, we laid the rug pad down and then went about our business. The room where this rug is gets alot of foot traffic so it was really put to the test. Can't tell you how happy I am with this. Sure took care of my problem!! Once every month we maybe have to shift the rug about 2 inches, but that it all. This is the thing for the creeping rug syndrome, trust me!!

Works ok
We put a rug under our dining room table on top of carpet. The rug kept shifting and wrinkling up. After lots of research, I ordered this product to try and keep it in place. It does help, but doesnโt completely stop the wrinkling.
