What a gem! The story is a repetitive theme in the best way, in which children both know what to expect and can predict the outcome. The characters are blithely oblivious and the illustrations are perfect for the gentle, humorous tone of the story. We sing the song "Going on a Picnic" each time the animals set forth.

Perfect story for the picnic basket and play food I bought . My two yr old grandchild understood the story very well.
