is there any type of manual or instructions with it? thx.

No we did not receive a manual. This has many purposes and directions will depend on its use. We used it to hang silks for aerial dance.

How wide is the inside diameter of the figure 8?

~70 mm at the widest part ("side to side") and ~53 mm at the narrowest part (where the "indentation" comes up from the bottom in the picture)Also, the text on mine reads "AMP" (next to left horn) "45 kN" (next to right horn) and "KURA 13B1 CA USA 110743" on the perimeter below the right horn.

Hi Eli,The 'kN' Behind The Number Stamped On A Carabiner, Or Other Climbing And Rigging Equipment, Designates A Unit Of Measure Called The "Kilonewton".A Kilonewton is a measured unit of force. A KN Rated carabiner will have a force rating stamped into it's material indicating how much force it can withstand in an unaltered state. We hope this answers your question.Kind regards,BrittneyShop for Lifestyle

Just curious.. Will the black one get run down buy the friction of rope, over time??

Basically, yes, but the coating is very tough and lasts a long time. I bought one almost a year ago and have used it for both rappeling and tree work. The black finish is still there where the ropes slide. Some of the ones I still have from my rescue and recovery days are in surprisingly good condition. Much will depend on conditions, such as useage in a sandy or gritty enviroment, etc. Hope this helps with your decision...
