FIRE UP Natural Sustainable Firelighters

They work. Tick. No plastic. Tick. Great value. tick!
Interesting. They are like little cubes of really thick ply wood. They don't light instantly, but they do light and then stay lit. I use one normal firelighter per fire, however you need a few of these to get the fire going. However, they do work. I bought as a plastic free alternative to firelighters - they come without plastic packaging. They work so all good really.Update. I have now perfected their use. One per fire, kindling and appropriate draught. Super and as for value for money, I haven't found anything on amazon that comes close. Sticking with these!

Fire took off no problem (log burner)
First the negative, They do smell nothing to do your head in about but be prepared they do have an odour. Ours are kept in a tin so we only smell it when getting a couple out.We only had the log burner fitted this year. a 5kw, and have used the natural wood wool until these.I have enclosed photos the last one was taken in less than 5 minutes of lighting. I purchased a crate of mixed kiln dried birch and oak but believe this fire was made of just birch. I have always used what I believe is the Scandinavian way of lighting the fire, logs on the bottom (my burner fits 2 ok), Jenga of kindling with the fire starts in between. Once lite another log on top straight away. Hopefully the first 3 pictures show this clearly. I also put a piece or 2 of kindling in the gap between the 2 logs just to raise the bricket so I can see and reach it ok. I think it key to allow air to circulate hence Jenga.Even when using the wood wool I used 2 not sure if 2 is need but it got the job done. (UPDATE we have been successfully using 1 for sometime no issues. Our kindling is up to 15mm square max and about 10/12cm longFirstly I tried using an electric candle lighter to light the little brickets but this did not fare well. SO I am afraid old fashioned matches it is. The first time I used them I lite the first and the last I lay the still burning match on the flat top, but it did not catch.Since then I set the match to corner of each bricket and one standard size match is enough for both.I see no issue in lighting coal but NOT directly. I feel you need to use these with kindling to generate enough heat for long enough to light coal.

No mess, no stink, no plastic. Win!
I’m coming to these from wood wool although I’ve used the stinky white firelighters ages ago too.First of all these smell really nice! They have vegetable oil instead of paraffin wax, so that’s a win.Secondly they’re fairly solid blocks, no wispy bits to shed all over the hearth. I imagine there’ll be some dust at the bottom of the box but surely nothing like the heap of unravelled shavings from the wood-wool type. These fibre-boardy ones take a bit longer to catch alight - it’s a few seconds - so use a long match or lighter, and go for a rough bit.Once lit they have a nice steady flame that lasts a few minutes, which is plenty if your kindling is dry.As a self-confessed lazy person I like that they’re chopped into individual blocks instead of left as slabs. They work out slightly cheaper per unit than the wood wool firelighters I’ve been using (which are extremely effective but quite messy) so that’s a nice bonus. Finally - no plastic in sight.Every. Box. Ticked.

They look like they wont but they really, really do work!
They look like small block of hard board. They take a few seconds to ignite, and you would do well to invest a couple of quid in a kitchen clipper lighter to make it easier, or long matches. Once they are alight they burn slow and hot , quickly light the kindling and you can get a good fire going quite quickly. In my experience the fire lighter will still be glowing red hot at the seat of the fire after half an hour or more.Excellent quality and great value for money.

Easy to use, easy to store, no smell
These natural firelighters are quick to ignite and it only takes 2 to get our log burner fired up, which is brilliant. They are also very reasonably priced, and work out about 9p get to the fire going. Our dogs got hold of one and chewed it up. Had it been a “normal” firelighter, I’d have been rushing them to the vets. So that was a relief!!
