Altosid Pro-G Mosquito Larvicide

This stuff really works. We live near a water fowl habitat and have also had a lot of rain, so the mosquitoes were just miserable. They were so bad we couldn't go outside except in the heat of the day. After a visit, my son found this online and told me I needed to order it so I did. After watering my shrubs, I dusted them lightly with it and put it in my birdbaths as well. The granules are heavy enough that I could carefully empty my birdbaths and not dump them out which I really liked. In a couple of weeks, I could tell the difference and it wasn't long before I was able to weed my flowers and sit on my porch without being attacked constantly.

It does not work!

Used it to prevent Chickungunya - works!We have a house on a Caribbean island where Chickungunya caused thousands of cases. Since mosquitos for the most part only range a couple hundred feet, we were intent on keeping them away from our house and property. We used Altosid monthly around the garden and in the underbrush and the mosquito population diminished to a couple here and there. Altosid along with mosquito bed nets treated with permethrin really do the trick. The result is that during the worst of the outbreak of Chickungunya, no family members or guests came down with the virus although we only used insect repellant during the early morning and evenings.

This is the only product I've bought that has effectively worked in standing water. We have 4 small partially overgrown fish ponds that become a real problem in the Summer. Dunks helped, but I would still see larvae. I followed the usage directions and a very small amount of Altosid in each pond fixed this season's problem. Another great thing about this product is it doesn't matter where in the water it goes as it disperses throughout even with water plants everywhere. Frogs still as active as ever after 1.5 months of use. Love it.

Used to use this stuff professionally. Not sure it should be available to the general public. Don't let it escape into streams or ponds where it will kill amphipians. If you can dump or drain standing water, that's a better approach. Not very dangerous for humans, but I use disposable rubber gloves. You can download a "material safety data sheet." More effective than BTK-based products since it works on all species of mosquitoes.

Rather than pay a professional to come out for $150, the professional told us the name of the product which they use, which is Altosid and we treated our 1.5 acre with a swamp pond ourself. We have very few moquitos this year - usually I have to cover myself with OFF but this year I didn't have to and I walk outside by the pond daily. Follow the directions carefully.

This product has reduced the number of mosquitos in our very damp part of our valley. Every year we have fewer mosquitos if we are diligent in following the 21 day replenishing cycle. Great product!

I live in Florida. This stuff is awesome. Just remember to spread it monthly and don't forget the gutters!
