The charger does not fit the batteries
Though the box is labeled as the charger for a Nikon EN-EL1 replacement battery, the batteries will not fit in the charger. The retaining lip on the bottom has two small protrusions that keep the battery from seating completely. The photograph of the charger in the description does not show those protrusions. The Kastar batteries that came with it are an exact size and shape as the Nikon EN-EL1 and they do fit in the camera and power it. Neither the Kastar nor the Nikon EN-EL1 batteries will fit this charger, or at least the one I received. I noted that what says the charger is for an EN-EL1 is a sticker on the box, not printed on it. Note that I also bought the single battery charger that plugs directly into a wall socket - this also does not fit the EN-EL1 batteries though it is labeled for it. The Nikon charger will fit the Kastar batteries, but I suspect the charging current is different as the Kastar batteries have a higher current rating. The first photo shows the charger box - note the "Fits NIK EL1" sticker. Photo 2 shows the two Kastar charger trays (they are interchangeable for other batteries; that is a nice feature). You can see the small molded-in protrusions projecting from the bottom retainer in each tray. Photo 3 shows that the battery bottom simply rests on those protrusions. Even with fairly high pressure, the battery will not seat all the way. Photo 4 shows the bottom of the battery (it is a Kastar EN-EL1 replacement) not seated all the way down. Since these were not too expensive and I have the tools, I am going to try shaving those small projections off to see if that fixes the problem.
