Series slips a bit here.
Kaori Ozaki, Immortal Rain, vol. 4 (Tokyopop, 2002)The time of Yuca's birth is nigh, and both contingents have made it to the underground installation where the angels were created during the last world war--Calvaria to plunder the technology, and Rain to face his nemesis once again. Of course, even though these two goals are entirely separate, that's not to say they're not going to collide in the ugliest of ways. Immortal Rain is still a good series, but it's starting to fragment. Hopefully Ozaki can pull things together in volume 5. *** ½

Extremely good
Although this series may have had an uncertain start, it just gets better and better as it goes on. While volume 1 and 2 set up the charcters of the series, volume 3 transports us back to a time when Rain was mortal and shows how he became immortal. In volume 4 the story comes together and contains some of the most important moments of the series with Yuca's rebirth and a climatic show-down between the Calvaria group and Machika and Rain. The consequence of voume 4, with it unexpected and shocking ending, sets up the story for volumes 5 & 6. Earlier characters that may have seemed unimportant take a new resonance as we begin to see their true role in the story. Volume 7 was released in Japan in November 2005 and will be published by TokyoPop in English in November 2006 (Yaay!)This series has many action set pieces but also some truly touching scenes. I love the characters of this series as they show genuine warmth and emotion. The drawings by Kaori Ozaki are clean and crisp and out of all the Mangas I have read my favourite style. Due to most volumes ending on clliff-hangers, I recommend, if you enjoyed volume 1, buying 2 or 3 at a time. Please note that the editorial description for volume 4 is incorrect.
