Absolute must-have for all pet owners!
Where has this been all my life? Best thing ever. I like that I can shine it on the floors without bending over. It really takes the guesswork out of urine spots. It is very big and bright, even when standing far away from the "invisible" stain. After I purchased this, I was able to truly get my carpets clean for for the first time in a long time and it was amazing!!This may sound strange, but it's even sturdy. My toddler has gotten ahold of it many times and banged it against objects, threw it, and even got it wet. The flashlight still works just as well! The battery life is great, especially considering how strong the light is.

awesome little, but GIANT, uv light
This is a small light, but it doesn't know that. It is very powerful and works very well. I will actually be buying more. Even if I wasn't into dog rescuing, I would buy this again. I plan on taking this with me whenever I travel. I purchased this origionally when after the results came back from having my carpet tested due to the new apartment making my husband and I sick. It came back with seriously high cat dander when we were told no cats lived here. That prompted me to take a closer look. I got this light and was horrified. Anyone who has had a male cat knows what it looks like when they spray. Needless to say, the owners will now be ripping out all the carpeting upstairs now. I'm almost to afraid to use this little "giant" light if I ever have to stay at a hotel again.

Works well for pet urine but a little too bright
Got this to find the mystery cat pee stains all over in our living room and bedroom. I have a long fluorescent tube UV light that I bought about 20 years ago for fun. I couldn't find it so we got this instead. There were some spots that we couldn't see but you could definitely smell them if you were within a few feet of them. Since we are moving out soon, we want to find them to be able to clean them up.When we got it, we turned off all the lights and began to look. Some of the small stains didn't show up very easily at first so we missed them completely. Once we found the larger stains we found that we had to hold the light back a little bit to see them better because it is a very bright UV light. As long as you hold it back it works well. Sometimes holding it at different angles helps too. I think if you could add a darker filter to the tip of the flashlight without killing the UV light, it might work better. But when we went back to look for more stains, we could see them after we figured out how to use it better.I also decided to use the flashlight in the kitchen. I could now see how messy we are at cooking. There were stains all over the cupboards and drawers. It's really quite gross. The toaster oven looked pretty horrible and the wall around it. I think we will be using this to clean when we move out soon. The long tube fluorescent light that I had was quite dim compared to this. I did find it just yesterday and decided to use it. It lit up everything easily. Didn't take much to get the stains to light up. The only drawback to the long tube light is that it has to be plugged into the wall outlet. So it's not very portable. The flashlight is much quicker to use.Overall it's a good buy. Worth the price for sure. It does strain the eyes after a while so you may want to get some UV light glasses. But it's not bad to use every now and then.

the quality is fine, very well made physically
TOTALLY WORTHLESS PRODUCT !!!"Save $20" should have been the indication of what one was getting. I was aware, but, wrote that off as advertising puffery; figuring $8 was a reasonable price for the item. The fault in my thinking was that the product should at least work, regardless of the quality. How wrong I was; the quality is fine, very well made physically. Totally worthless for detecting urine stains.Just as ALL the 1-star reviews said, " . . . . nothing more than a purple flashlight", (one can easily guess who wrote the 5-star reviews !!!)And, it’s priced just right so no one will spend $5 or $6 to return-ship an $8 item.To test the Pet Detective, I went to a known problem area. Of course it goes without saying; this was done at night with all lights off. Absolutely NO indication of urine stains. At first I was elated, thinking that the pet shampoo and the spot-shampooer I use were totally neutralizing the urine. So I went to an area that hasn’t been shampooed (because of its inaccessibility). Again, NO indication of urine !!!Then I set off on a trek from one end of the house to the other, including the bathrooms, where there’s always a splash of human, if not varmint, trails . . . . NOTHING !!!The ONLY thing of note was in the kitchen; oil residue on the deep-fryer had a slight orange tint.About that time, Puller came strutting through and indicated I should check the entryway; lo and behold, there was a fresh deposit.Following is a picture of the spot in normal light, and again with the Pet Detective.Again, it’s just a purple flashlight.Perhaps this is a good point to retract my opening statement, “TOTALLY worthless product”.The Pet Detective works GREAT if you’re looking for little, white threads ! ! ! ! It works pretty well but it was a lot smaller than I ...
I bought this to try to find out where my cat had been spraying. It works pretty well but it was a lot smaller than I expected. The flashlight's length is about the length of my palm. I have to crouch to the ground and sweep the floor with the light to see where the spray marks are. I haven't really found any yet so I'm not 100% sure if it is working correctly but other stuff does show up. For example, my cat threw up by the couch and that showed up really well so I think I just have to keep looking but more carefully since if the light isn't close enough to the spot, its had to tell that anything is there. You literally have to be withint I would say 2 and a half feet to see it. Also, sometimes it doesn't turn on even though the batteries are in correctly. I have to unscrew the bottom then screw it back in again, I think there is a loose connection in the wiring.
