Also known as the "kidney dagger" due to the guard design. One of the most popular dagger styles used during the Middle Ages. The single edge blade is 8- ½" long with a hardened edge popular known as selective hardening. This produces a very hard edge that maintains sharpness longer than standard process. To produce the blade, two types of steel are used: 9250 and 1060 which are fused together at a very high temperature of 2300+ degrees Fahrenheit and folded repeatedly producing more than 100 layers which are visible. The blade is 15⁄16 " wide at the guard area and is 5⁄ 16 " thick tapering to ⅛ " thick an inch from the tip. A flat brass piece is attached to front of the guard to help seal elements going inside the handle. Beautiful Macasser Ebony handle is 4 - ⅜ " long with a round cross section that flares towards the back. The handle is glued securely to the blades tang. It comes with a hardwood sheath with a light coat of lacquer.
