I have been a card collector for quite a bit of my life. I have cards from places I've visited like Niagara Falls, and a deck from when my friend visited Jerusalem. The one constant is that the card quality varies, often greatly! I've picked up everything from almost printer paper cards to super nice cards.The quality of these cards is the first thing I noticed. They have a nice slick coating on them, allowing them to shuffle easily. They feel nice and thick, just like the name brand cards you can buy at the store. The cards are also the same size as standard playing cards. They are easy to use when playing games.The unique part to these cards is the coloring, the suits, and the learning opportunities! The coloring to this deck is orange and green instead of the typical red and black. The green suits are philosophers and medicine. The orange suits are chemists and biologist. Each suit has an icon, and a banner with the suit listed. The cards are numbered 2-10, J,Q,K,A just like a standard deck of cards.Each card has a person on it that contributed to the realm of their suit. Due to the time period on these, I was surprised to find a few woman! The time periods that are covered had a lack of women because of history. So, I was pleasantly surprised to find them. Each card has a photo or painting rendition, or in the case of Thales and a few others, the accepted look for them. Each card has the name of the person, their birth and death date, or approx year. It has a one liner about them, and then a longer paragraph about their contribution. For example, Walter Reed says Determined cause of yellow fever, and then a longer paragraph about the discovery, and how it allowed the US to complete the Panama Canal. If you are looking for a non face card deck of cards, these are a great option!I received these cards at a discount in exchange for a review. I was very surprised by the quality of these cards, they are not at all flimsy and seem very sturdy. It was so much fun going through all of the cards with my husband, and reading about each scientist. It brought back many forgotten bits of knowledge that I had learned in school and taught me about many scientists who I had never heard of without being boring. I love that they are very informative but not overly long winded, each card states the name of the scientist the years in which they lived , a highlight of what they did and then a short blurb expounding upon that. I have not played with 7 year old son yet, but I think he will find these cards fascinating, as he loves to learn. Great quality and a unique product, perfect for anyone who loves to learn. I received these recently at a discount for my honest review of them. We love playing games and cards in our household and I also have an 11 year old who is interested in learning and loves Science so I thought these would be a great match for us. When I received them I was happy with the box and the quality of the cards. They are not made from cheap or flimsy paper like you will see sometimes with card games. We played a couple rounds of simple card games and had a good time doing so. At first it was tricky getting used to the "suits" in the deck but we got it eventually. It may have been more helpful if the suits were marked a little bigger or some additional colors were used. After playing card games we sat and read through some of the scientists. We learned some new things about some people and cant wait to play with them again and learn about more scientists as we didnt read them all in one sitting. All in all I am glad we got them for some family fun and some educational learning!
