Does this device send the status of the manual switch inputs back to the z-wave controller? Alternatively does it send the status of the outputs?
Could I replace a switch with just this and no toggle switch?
Is it possible to open the case and connect to the com, no and nc contacts directly?
What type of mechanical switch do I pair this with? Toggle switches wouldn't be ideal, since they have up/down positions. Are there alternatives?

Nifty Little Secret Agent Automation Switch

Oddly, here I'm reviewing a Z-Wave contact relay, and the review setup is asking me aboutTech Support / Remote Control / Motion Detection? HUH? None of the above, really...But, moving on... I love that this little device is exactly that... VERY TINY... so that it can fit in a space barely bigger than a small pad of post-it notes! That's super tiny for the POWER it allows one to setup within home automation!I've got one behind a fan controller, to add it into Z-Wave network seamlessly without updating the switch it serves. And another one to add a 3-way light to Z-Wave.The real beauty of this little baby is it can hide in plain sight... there's no limit to the number of places it can be used, completely transparently in exactly the environment one might not expect to find special automation. It's almost Secret Agent stuff, it's so stealthy and tiny! Great little switch. And yes, it's about $43, but hey... Home Automation has never been an adventure in Dollar Store finds... I have optimistically thought for the better part of twenty years that "this stuff has got to get cheaper as they're making more of it"... but alas... no such. It is what it is. But hey! It's cool and it works.

Easy install and works great with smartthings

Easy install behind a wall plate to control outdoor lighting through the phone or automated routine while still being able to use the regular light switch if needed.Make sure that the antenna wire is moved to the front behind the wall plate for good reception. This makes a lot of difference.Pressing the program button and then use the device scan feature in smartthings to find the relay switch easily.I did have to use one wire cap on hand that was not included with relay switch. Keep safety in mind and shut off breaker to disconnect power before installing this relay switch.Manual can be found online through manufacture if you want to zoom in on text since the font in the manual is very small.

Great concept, but doesn't work

I was so hyped for these and they install as expected in any existing switch box. They turn any standard switch in a 3-way switch with smartthings being the other "switch"...so the functionality is very powerful...you keep your existing physical switch and anyone can use the switch as normal, controlling the light or fan or heater or whatever is wired to that switch without any difference but in addition you have the power of smartthings....so timer based functionality, event driven functionality, geofencing functionality, and all other automations, plus remote control from anywhere...oh yeah this is a great concept!!!!BUT IT DOESN'T WORK!!!I bought and wasted my time installing 5 of these around my home...exhaust fans, lights, fireplace, etc but they are so frustrating! Works flawlessly through smartthings, whether its using the app to turn on/off or using programmed automations but the physical switch....the physical switch you flick it up and hear a click but the wired device doesn't come on, you flick it back down...."click" and it doesn't come on, flick again and again and it will finally come on....maybe 2 clicks, maybe 3 or 4.....rrrrrgh!Then one day you walk up and flip the switch and it works 1st time?! Mostly 2-3 switch flips up and down before the light or other devices come on...but looking at smartthings the devices are all connected and happy and if I use the app to operate the switch it works everytime the 1st time. So its very frustrating! I feel like the physical switch should just work everytime regardless of anything else...connection, hub status, smartthings app commands, etc....if the physical switch is switched it should work....period!

My favorite smart switch solution

I have three of these Enerwave relays (one single and two duals). They work as advertised with Smartthings. I love that this allows the standard switch to continue to function normally, while also allowing for smart control. The main thing I didn’t understand before installing is how the switch behaves after install. I had a single switch so up was always on, down always off. So much so my physical switch has “on” and “off” labeled on the toggle switch. Once you install the relay behind the switch, the single switch behaves like a 3 way switch. Up and down no longer indicate the state of the light/fan. You just have to reverse the switch to reverse the state of the light/fan.I have 2 of the Honeywell / Jaysco switches that handle the position issue by being spring loaded so the toggle deflects up or down and returns to the middle. The Honeywell is much larger, and is a bit different than a standard switch. My wife was mildly annoyed with the Honeywells, but she couldn’t tell the Enerwave was installed. The Enerwave feels like the same old switch because it IS the same old switch. The dual relays function just as well with the required Device Handler in SmartThings. The pricing of the Dual relay 2 pack is better than the single on a per unit price. The Dual Relay is only slight larger than the single so I’d buy the dual two pack going forward, even if I only had one switch to control. You might reconfigure things in the future and be all set with the 2nd relay on hand.My electrician friend tells me this works with 3 way switches so long as you install it in a box with both the hot and the load. In one of my installs I did have the hot and load in the box, so both of the physical switches work and the relay works. Other scenarios I didn’t have both in the same box so I couldn’t get it to work. Let’s just say this will work with 3 way switches in some circumstances. As they say your mileage may vary.Install is on par with any switch or outlet. It’s not rocket surgery, but may be out of reach for some. Always turn off the breaker when working on anything. An electrician should be able to install this without issue if you get stuck. All things said, this is a solid addition to my Smartthings home. My new favorite smart lighting and fan automation.
