Lindberg Models LN402 1:240 Scale USS Olympia Model

My granson age 16 has enjoyed this ship very much. He’s autistic and this keeps him busy. He has been asking for a new ship once a month!

The model arrived as scheduled, well packed and without damage. In retrospect, being that this is a Lindberg model and the price is $45, I probably would not buy it again. It seems a bit overpriced, as Lindberg is notorious for lack of detail and sometimes missing parts. Albeit, I purchased this kit because I wanted a model of this particular ship. Wonderful historical vessel! I have been building models for more than 50 years, so all the shortcomings of each model company I am well aware. All that being said, the scale is awesome! 1/240! Nice size ship! Thus far, I have only found one minor imperfection (port side aft gun barrel not uniform with the rest) which was an easy fix. Also, I have not noticed any missing parts! Of course the detail is somewhat lacking for a scale this size, but this I can mostly overcome with some paint “majik”. The pieces go together quite well, only slight adjustments so far. I’m happy with the kit overall and I’m sure I can make it presentable. Only an old sailor will notice the biggest missing detail, there’s no fencer rail around the deck! But, as I am recovering from surgery, I don’t think I’ll miss that tedious task anyhow! When I finish it, I’ll add pictures!

Well designed model kit. My only criticism would be the suggestions for painting were bland and didn't fit the ship. I used my only knowledge and imagination to paint.

This is a let down, pieces glued together don't match up, larger pieces don't align well. One needs to spray paint primer the whole kit as the first move because painting white plastic casting does not work well. Instructions are only so so. I got it assembled, and from a distance doesn't look to bad. Do not allow your modeling friends examine closely or they will eat you alive.

I ordered this for my grandson. My husband tried to help him assemble it, as he has put several models together. He said this was impossible to assemble. My grandson was really disappointed. It is nothing but two sheets of plastic pieces that tear apart.

An Excellent model of aWW1 battle cruiser

Not bad for the money, but some of the parts do not fit together, so you have to know what the finished details are like from either pictures or being familiar with the ship in order to complete this model correctly.

Shipping was right on time.Poor instructions. Poor parts numbering. Rigging instructions poor. I built Lindberg s RobertE Lee and Southern Belle. Both much better all around models.They should let the warships to Trumpeter and Tamiya
