Lego's Magnum Opus - the Ferris Wheel
I should have reviewed this long ago, so I am catching up now. My child loved Lego since being a toddler. As she grew we got her increasingly complex Lego sets to build. This was her last piece and she figured it out barely looking at the instructions. Lego is a fantastic learning tool for children. It teaches them how to follow instructions, analyze and figure out how components become structures, and gives them a great sense of accomplishment when they finish their project. Heck, I even bought a Millenium Falcon for myself (although I let my 11 year old build it for me).Bravo Lego--we need more mind-building tools (yes, tool, not toy) like this.

This LEGO set is HUGE and absolutely awesome!
I absolutely love this set. It's huge once completed and definitely makes a statement when on display. When you add on the LEGO components to make it move, it becomes even cooler. The price point for this set isn't as significant when you consider the sheer size of the set. The number of minifigs that come with this set is also a plus. If there was ever a question about which LEGO set I would recommend to someone if they were looking around this price point, the Ferris Wheel would most definitely be near the top of my recommendations. When you purchase the power functions for this set you will be amazed at how smooth the ferris wheel turns. Though it makes a little noise when turning due to the power functions, it's still not so loud that it's annoying. The power functions battery pack requires 6 AAA batteries, so get prepared to purchase lots of batteries to keep this ferris wheel turning. If you decide not to use the power functions, then no worries, as there is a crank system that allows you to manually turn the ferris wheel. There are a total of 12 cabins for passengers to ride in as the ferris wheel turns, which means there is plenty of space for everyone. There are 8 minifigs included in this LEGO set, which is a good amount for one individual set.The wide-range and variety of colors on this set are also a perk. There are several colors with pieces that are fairly rare and can only be found in a handful of LEGO sets. The ticket booth is a nice touch, as well as the ice cream vendor. The kid with the balloon is also a nice addition to this set.The overall build time for this set was around 6 hours, which may be even more depending on the age of the bricker. This is the kind of build that requires a little bit of time and usually multiple sittings. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this set... tons of playability and lots of enjoyment for the entire family. If my review was helpful, please hit "helpful" below. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.Happy bricking.

Showpiece of the county fair
This set is a nice model for a Lego collector, and a perfect companion piece to the Lego motorized carousel. Probably not as excellent for younger kids, though---it's a tedious build, with a lot of "multiple sections" having to be repetitively built. Assemble with care and patience and it is a pretty showpiece with a pleasant movement. As for the build itself... Parts come in numbered bags, corresponding to large sections; for easier building, you might want to further sort the Section 3 bags since there are a lot of small parts there. The model requires quite a bit of repetitive building (support legs, ferries wheel struts, swinging passenger cars). For the moveable parts, it is critical to check motion as you build---a too-tight fitting or slightly cantered stud can bind the machinery later on. The set is marked for builders 16+, but certainly a younger person could succeed if they have Lego experience and patience.Aside from the wheel itself, there are nice little touches in this model. You get both adult and child minifigures, and most have unique or double-sided facial expressions. Lots of blooming flowers and trees, an ice-cream stand, unusual color scheme, translucent elements, plenty of unique Lego pieces to use in other builds. The wheel turns via a hand crank, and a lever locks/unlocks the area for riders to get into and out of the cars at the bottom. My one star off is for some minor points. The model is unfortunately built on numerous small base plates: for ease of relocating the piece in future, I chose to add an XL Lego Baseplate (48x48 studs) underneath. The interior of the passenger cars is very tight: minifigures with certain hairstyles or hats will not fit within. The motor is not included, but I found the manual turning of the wheel satisfying.

Wonderful Gift For my 11 Year Old Daughter
To start, I bought this for my daughter's 11th birthday. Despite knowing this was recommended for ages 16 and up, I thought it would be a nice challenge for her.She started putting this together on a Sunday and finished it that following Friday!! My daughter has always loved building things since she was a toddler. She'd rather build with Legos than play any video game. The only issue she had putting this together was simply putting the base together. When my husband showed her how to count the pieces, she had no problem at all. She probably spent a total of 8-10 hours to put it together. If you are considering buying this, keep in mind if you're buying it for someone younger than 16, it can be an excellent gift if he/she has lots of experience with building with large Lego sets. I added a few pictures of her building process. We bought a large card table from Costco for her building area. The set was missing one piece, but she was able to find a substitute from her other sets. The instructions were very clear and had had the building process set up into four phases. My daughter is a visual learner, so the written steps with pictures helped her immensely. I didn't help her at all.All we are waiting for now is the power adapter and battery pack. I might add a video to this review to show how it works. This is by far the best toy I've bought her. I just think it's crazy that it only took her a few days to put together!!

I like this set and bought two
I like this set and bought two, one sent to a family member in a different city and state in order that we can FaceTime and build our sets together. Sadly there were major missing parts. We contacted LEGO online then eventually by phone because the amount of missing pieces equated to a missing bag. While LEGO was helpful and this does not seem to be amazon’s fault, the amount of time to finish is impossible to compute as we’re still waiting for parts. Apparently, LEGO measures by weight and it turns out the amount of pieces left over were irrelevant to the construction but it accounted for the weight that made LEGO quality control pass. For a major company one would think they would have their algorithms figured out on the assembly lines but I guess not.
