Truly terrible film....
Contains spoilers.... But to be honest there's not much to be spoilt.OK, I appreciate it's difficult to turn a computer game into a film, and I have never played the game, but this has to be one of the worst films I've ever seen.OK, it's action packed, with lots of fight scenes and scary monsters. But that's its only saving grace. Even then the fight scenes are frenetic, predictable, and unbelievable. It's got unbelievable, unlikeable characters. Totally predictable story lines and it steals A LOT of parts from other films. All of the characters could have died and I wouldn't have cared less. Even the scary spiders were more likeable than the main characters! You've got military personnel with false eyelashes (yep!), people who live in the jungle with perfectly white teeth (amazing dentistry in the jungle?!) some of whom speak perfect English with an American accent, but he has never thought to teach any of that perfect English to his friends? and even the monsters are stolen from other films. Mix godzilla with smaug and game of thrones and you've got the monsters in this film.I wasn't expecting much but from the trailer I thought it would be fun entertainment for my 13 year old who loves monsters, but no, even he thought it was ridiculous! One star is being generous!

Disappointing
I like Paul W Anderson. I like his direction, his stories are for the most part well scripted and his films are good fun full of action. The reviewers hate him but I don't so that having been made clear I have been eagerly awaiting this movie since the announcement of its making. I don't know anything about the Monster Hunter game so this is purely a stand alone review of the movie.Sadly it's one of Anderson's worse, if not the worst as at this point in time I can't think of one I enjoyed less.It starts well enough with the desert action sequence reminiscent of the scorpanok battle in the first Transformer film but as soon as you are just left with Jolovich and Jaa it gets boring. The plot is minimal, Jaa's character is underdeveloped, I think in part due to his limited acting ability, and nothing much happens. You don't see much in the way of monsters (only 2 for the bulk of the film) and then Ron Perlman (who looks like he stepped straight out of Monkey) pops back up again with his merry band who we saw briefly at the start. There's a couple more fights (which are boring) and that's it. It leaves things open for the obligatory sequel but I hope that never comes based upon this.Sadly a wasted opportunity.

Confused mix
It is a film derived from a highly spectacular video game (which I do not know) but which draws from everywhere. From Jurassick Park to Tremors and Dune, from Stargate to Riddick saga not to mention the dragon, a little Hobbitt, a little GOT. The protagonist ages but continues to play (credibly) these fighting roles that do not require a particular acting talent. The cast, apart from the appearance of the good Ron is minimalist, the plot is somewhat messed up (but maybe it depends on the game, I guess Puss in Boots is part of it). Let's say that if you love the highly smashing fantasy genre, you are happy to look at it. Once. Then maybe if a sequel comes out (I doubt ...) it concerns itself to remember what happened in the previous episode.

Disappointing
I find this film quite disappointing. It starts of good but it's one of those that ends up sort of half way throught, without completing, what one would thought is the main mission of the whole plot. Looming like there will be a sequel and lets face it, there never is. I loved the mknsters, the special effects are great, the plot interesting, but like I said, in my opinion ends up too abruptly, not really giving any feeling of satisfaction. I never played the game, hence might not fully understand certain bits.

Great actors, lousy writing.
Brill effects, great actors, but the writing and directing lets the film down.

Very entertaining
If you love Milla, lots of action with never-ending monsters, fantasy, great special effects and beautiful landscapes then you'll love this too. The plot is simple and easy to follow. It's very entertaining and kept me hooked with the monster fighting sequences.

A good B movie
is a 2020 monster film written, directed, and produced by Paul W. S. Anderson, based on the video game series of the same name by Capcom. The film stars Milla Jovovich in their fifth outing together as director and lead actor. The other cast members include Tony Jaa, Tip Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman. The film follows Artemis (Jovovich) and her loyal soldiers when they are transported to a new world, where they engage in a battle for survival against enormous monsters with incredible powers.A film adaptation based on the series has been in conception since 2012 by director Paul W. S. Anderson. The film was formally announced by Capcom in October 2018, with production starting that month with Constantin Film. Principal photography on the film began on October 5, 2018, and was completed on December 19, 2018, in Cape Town, South Africa.Monster Hunter was released to theatres during the COVID-19 pandemic, by Sony Pictures Releasing (excluding Germany and Japan), opening in China on December 4, 2020, and in the United States on December 18, 2020. The film grossed over $44 million worldwide against a production budget of $60 million and received mixed reviews, with praise for its action sequences, visual effects, musical score, and the performances of Jovovich and Perlman but criticism for its direction and editing. It received a nomination at the 19th Visual Effects Society Awards, in the category Outstanding Effects Simulations in a Photoreal Feature.enjoyable if nothing else Jovovich is always a joy to watch even if it one-note acting.

Very below average film. don't bother.
I was expecting the film to be similar to the Resident Evil films due to the people involved, all of which I enjoyed. This comes across as a poorly constructed and rushed video game with laughable action sequences with acting as poor as the storyline and it does not even finish effectively. The only decent thing about it were some of the creature effects.
