Take me to the mountain
The author has saved me from having to hike the Pacific Crest Trail myself. The vivid descriptions and details of the logistics and discomfort involved are evidence the writer knows what she is talking about. However, I was disappointed that the protagonist, a young woman who said she wanted to hike solo, was not allowed to do so. I had hoped for a spiritual awakening resulting from re-connecting with nature, but that is not what this journey was about. It was more about her relationships with her parents and recent boyfriend who insisted on joining her. The prickly subject of abortion is tackled and handled with objectivity. The plot thickens with two losers who threaten the trek with mischief. It is in the end a well written love story set in a majestic, indifferent landscape.

The TRUTH Will set you free
Secrets destroy those we love. Liz has been holding onto secrets in her past and they are destroying her and her relationship with Dante. Hiking and back packing on the John Muir trail through the Yosemite mountainous wilderness is hard but cleansing. As I read through the pages of this novel, I was right there with Liz and Dante. There is enough suspense to make this book hard to put down. I read into the early morning hours finding it difficult to come to a place to stop. I recommend this book of you enjoy detailed descriptions of trees, plants, mountains, animals, birds, and nature. I enjoy the outdoors and hiking so this story was perfect for me!

Another good book by Sonja Yoerg
This is the 3rd book by Sonja Yoerg I’ve read. They have all been unique from each other. I enjoyed all of them but this one I had a hard time putting down partly because I am also a hiker who at one time did difficult hikes. Her characters are well delineated and the situations realistic. The plot kept me up late wanting to see what would happen. It’s been a while I’ve found an author I liked so much.

One of my favorite books is "Wild"
One of my favorite books is "Wild", and I was expecting this book to be similar, I.e. A woman figuring out her life through a challenging hike. It started that way, but went off into a terrifying situation. This was well written and a good book for those who enjoy suspense. Since I don't enjoy suspense, I skipped most of the last part of the book. If the book had been previewed as a suspense novel, I wouldn't have read it.

Riveting plot and descriptive language
Sonja Yoerg is a wonderful writer. Her characters are well developed and the plot is suspenseful. I am not fit or courageous enough to take the strenuous 10 day hike the main characters took but her descriptions of the beautiful but perilous terrain and the dangerous men who pursued them made for a great armchair adventure!

An adventurous read!
One of the best works of fiction I've read in a long time even if it is based on real events. The characters are well developed and intriguing to boot. The sometimes treacherous landscape is tangible to the extent that you can "feel" the cold, thin air. The spectacular beauty of this trek would be mesmerizing if not for the hours of monotony that are certain to be a part of a journey this long. The relationships between the characters are complicated and captivating. The bad guys make for a thrilling and satisfying read. Loved it'

Great adventure story
I really enjoyed this book. I flew through it very quickly. I loved the descriptions of the JMT and the details of hiking and camping. The suspenseful elements were intriguing. I'll definitely read more by this author. Makes me want to hit the trail with my boyfriend. :)
