Windows 10 For Dummies

Good but not perfect
Like all the dummies books it is quite helpful, but Cannot touch on all contingencies. Probably have been frustrated by not being able to find an answer as many times as I have been satisfied. Overall it has been helpful.

It's OK but could be better
Once you have located the subject you want explained, Windows 10 for Dummies is excellent and explaining a very arcane subject. However, like many of the "dummies" books about technical subjects, it lacks a really complete index. The chief reason most people get "dummies" books is because they really don't know much about the subject or need a really complete introduction. By their very nature they are not good for reading "cover to cover" but best used as a reference. Good references require and index that will anticipate the words that real "dummies" will want to have defined or otherwise explained. If you knew what subject the term belonged in you probably don't need a "dummies" book. I know Mr. Rathbone is capable of writing such a complete index. I wish he would.

useful
It doesn't answer all my questions (like how to made movie type dvd's on the new computer from old home movies), really it doesn't cover burning DVDs for video much at all. However, it saved my behind the other day when new PC suddenly lost the ability to access the internet thru my wi-fi. Told me how to go back to restore points, which is not obvious in W-10 like it was in XP. So I believe I got my money's worth just from that. I'm going to try some more stuff from it very soon.

Great reference for Windows 10
This Dummies book does give me a much easier way to find a solution to a problem than searching IT. However, sometimes I can not find subject I need. My new all in one with windows 10 will probably go into outer space before I finish the book. I use it for researching specific item not to read from cover to cover.

Not enough for this dummy
The explanations were good but for a beginner in the "new" Windows era it was not enough for me. I had remained on Windows Vista and missed 7, 8 and 8.1, so this was all new to me; the jargon and the missing introductory information. And what I was really looking for was help with Windows Mail which was totally lacking. On to the next book for me.

A simple manual anyone can understand
My lady is not computer literate and used only 10% of what the computer offers. After reading this book, she has opened up the treasures that have always been there for her—an amazing learning curve from such a source of knowledge.

windows 10 is a nightmare
due to the complexity of windows 10 there is a lot of information that only a wizard can use this entire book. because I have owned windows vista and 7 I can read between the lines and get things done by trial and error. I recommend this book for anyone as there isn't any other publication.

OK. So,so. Boy, I am a real dumm.
OK. Just OK. So far resolutions to problems remain mostly elusive. However, complaints aside, it is a good book to have for various reasons,. such as learning new terms and getting some decent overviews of 10Note: this IS my first foray into WINDOWS so I would recommend to others to have some further poking around with a view to solving specific problems unique to your situation. Also, with a little search you may find this book at a much bigger savings.

Great reference or teach yourself book for Windows 10
Excellent book, easy to use and follow, also easy to look up things you want to find out via the excellent index. A useful reference to have when using Windows 10. It can also be followed through step by step for those new to this operating system.

COLOURLESS
Arrived promptly and the text is easy to read and concise. But the illustrations are in black and white and the screen shots are simply dreadful. They look like pictures from a fifty year old newspaper. Might have saved a little on the production costs but it makes the pictures more or less useless.

they are fine - very simple and straightforward
I've bought and read a number of the "Dummies" series including at least one by this author and, allowing that they are targetting new users, they are fine - very simple and straightforward. They have a habit of being a little patronising, but I accept that's a small price to pay for a sound basic introduction to the subject. This one, however, is hard going. It really does talk down to you, with very repetitive phrases which quickly become irritating. The content is generally OK, but I would not recommend it on style grounds.

The book is quite clear for some things others I just don't understand..But I am finding windows 10 hard to get to grips with & trying to delete the apps to make my new computer run quickerI can't understand. I can't seem to follow the book for this.

Doubtless a good guide, but not to me.
I am sure that someone understands the advice given, but the book is unintelligible to a member of the older generation. I am taking the logical next step of either getting my computer guru to teach me the simple things I need to know or get my grandchildren to explain it all to me!
