Cute color, fun for tween - you can reset it if password forgotten
I waited a while before purchasing it as the recipient was younger and I wasn't sure it'd be useful. But perfect for tweens - or perhaps older, depending on the child. The turquoise color is really pretty, and it is simple to use, although it is tempted at first blush to try to put an input jack into the microphone 'hole' instead of looking at the top edge of the device for it.I read elsewhere that people were frustrated that the password, once forgotten or not clearly inputted, made the journal useless or would force someone to basically 'force' it open. However, if you simply remove the batteries and then reinstall them, you can start all over with a fresh attempt to set a new password. (Of course, you might want to be sure not to let your recipient's siblings know this, for that removes that whole aura of a 'password journal' being a 'secure' device in which one could lock away their secrets! All in all, I'm happy with the purchase, and while the speaker does not rival a BOSE product, it is surprisingly adequate for listening to music - or an audiobook- while enjoying the journal.

Waste of money- taught my daughter a lesson.
My Daughter bought this toy with her Christmas money. She has been asking for it for 6 months. We ttok it out of the box. Put the batteries in and it didn't work. The door wouldn't close, and when she wrote the button to lock and unlock the journal was under her palm so it continually sounded. She was totally disappointed, abd wasted her Money which was a lesson learned. The next day at the Christmas tree shop i found a beautiful journal for $3 and she has been much happier with that.

It's an ok product. A bit glitchy though.
My daughter was super happy to receive this as a gift at first. She had a lot of fun with it. But it has become increasingly glitchy. We have replaced the batteries several times and there are just times when it won't allow her to get into it (even though the password is correct). The "voice recognition" isn't as high quality as you would like (of course, it is a toy after all). The drawer at the bottom also comes open and stays open a lot. We have a tough time getting it to stay closed. It's an alright toy for about a month or so...then it's just another piece of junk around the house to be honest.

My daughter loves it!
My 8 year old is having a great time playing with this. The great thing about this is that she can tell me her password (so I can remind her if she forgets) but she still has privacy because it only recognizes the password in her voice. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is occasionally picky about how she says the password (long and drawn out or short and clipped). But I think this is the case for all the new password diaries. It's a beautiful diary and looks exactly as shown on Amazon. It was delivered on time and in good condition.

Frustrating
Unfortunately, cannot recommend. The voice recognition doe not work well. It takes multiple attempts to get the locked drawer open. For a child this is very frustrating. Also, the voice giving instructions has an accent which is difficult for a child to understand.

my daughter STILL uses it :-)
I bought my 10yr old daughter this for christmas and she loves it and is STILL using this journal to this day :-) I ordered this product around about the 1st week of november and it arrived about 4 days later (I've never had anything I've ordered arrive that fast!) So I opened that package and put that little bugger to the test- I tried like heck to open the door before I put the batteries in and it WOULD NOT BUDGE (that's a good thing!) Then I put the batteries in and set a password. After I set the password, I tried the password and it opened with no issues :-) then I closed the door and when I tried to open it again, I purposely kept saying the wrong password and it would tell me "wrong password please try again" so I said the wrong password again and this annoying little alarm went off lol :-) then I tried to open it with the correct password and it worked like it was supposed to :-) it also alerted me that an intruder tried to get into it which I thought was pretty cool! Then to test the blacklight and blacklight pen, I wrote a little note to my daughter saying "I love you and merry christmas <3" and the blacklight showed the "secret" message perfectly! I also tested the little music speaker by plugging in the mp3 player I bought her to go with this present and it worked great! If I could give this product 10 stars I would :-)

Great buy
I was a little hesitant to buy this because a few people reported problems with the password function, but I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did because my daughter loves it. She has had no problems with the password. It worked the first time. She loves it that I can say her password, but it will only open for her.

Cheap and Overpriced
What you will find inside this journal is a small (approx 4 x 5) notebook. What you're paying for is the voice activation for a single password. Really? This should be a $10 - $15 item, not $25 - $30. Actually saw it go down to $5.99 after Christmas and that made sense. Also, I would appropriate the age for this item as 6 - 8 years.Ordered 3 from different sellers and returned all 3. A BIG thank you to this seller for a no hassel exchange.
