This is one of the handiest contraptions we came across in a long time. Perfectly makes a simple job of messy watermelon cutting. Just like slicing a cake but faster. We bought this for personal use but will probably keep this on the radar for gift giving too.

It looked good in theory, but the problem is that it does not cut watermelon. It requires super human strength just to move it through a watermelon, and even then, it smushes more than it cuts. I had great hopes for this item, but I found it to be pretty much useless. I am easily pleased, but even I have my limits. :)

Maybe we just didn't learn how to use it properly, but my wife continues to just use a knife and cut a grid. I tried to use it some and did get some chunks out, but it took some time and I made a mess. The baller / other pointy tool thing that came with it is OK - the problem is the pointy jagged tool can cut into your hand when using the baller, so a straight baller is a bit safer to use.

It is very difficult cutting watermelon with this tool. I thought maybe it was because of my arthritis, but another person tried it (with strong hands) and they had trouble as well. I would not recommend this slicer. Let's face it, watermelon is not a hard fruit to cut. I can use a fork or spoon to scoop the meat out. Of course, I am not going all the way to the rind on the first scoop. However, this tool is supposed to do just that, but failed.

Fast and handy little gadget. Makes the mountains of watermelon my husband brings home less messy as he can slice the fruit in the rind, then use it to pick up the slices. After the first use, we found there was still a bit of melon near the rind that needed to be scooped out, but compared to the mess of juice everywhere... I'm sure with time that will improve as we learn to use it more efficiently.

The watermelon slicer knife works well but it takes some getting use to. You have to develop a technique to keep the blades from collapsing together, once a technique is developed the knife woks great!
