Q: how does this compare to "normal" burlap?

This is alot softer then the regular burlap fabric , I used it to sew Christmas stockings , I hope this helps

Q: Is it suitable for upholstery?

I bought this thinking it was a roll of poly burlap, but it is fabric. I make wreaths and would not to stiff enough for that. It may work for upholstery, it was a slick feel to it .

Q: Is this really white?

It is not bright white, but yes, it is white. It is definitely not ivory or off-white.

Q: Is the Seafoam a nice dark shade?

I would consider this seafoam color to be a nice jewel tone, but not especially dark.
