Where is the Brunswick Stew?
I am so happy to receive my copy of the Cookbook today. I am a big fan of Johnny Harris-- been a family tradition forever (my father was born and raised in Savannah)... we miss the Restaurant on Christmas Eve the last few years... That said, the one recipe I was hoping for that doesn't seem to appear -- Brunswick Stew! I know I can find a recipe on the Internet -- but this is disappointing - as I have always craved 1/2 rack of ribs/ 1/2 fried chicken (no breading-- love it) and Brunswick stew...

Nostalgia At Its Finest!!!
Nearly 40 years ago I was in the main dining room at Johnny Harris'. I witnessed a little old man ask one of the servers (called waiters back then) if he could just sit a few minutes in a particular booth. Without hesitation the waiter escorted the man to the booth. A little later, as I was leaving the building I bumped into this man. He seemed anxious to strike up a conversation. He began to tell me, in a quivering voice, about the passing of his wife. She had passed the previous month. And the reason for his visit to Johnny Harris' was to sit one more time in the booth where he had proposed to his wife decades earlier. Now, nearly 40 years later, I find that I am that little old man. Thankfully I have not lost my wife, but I have lost my youth. And whenever I feel nostalgic, nothing brings back those feelings like immersing myself in a restaurant that has "witnessed" our lives. All these years later, we still love the batter-less fried chicken! Now that this wonderful cookbook is available, I can experience my youth again simply by reading the historic stories that accompany many of the recipes. Two thumbs way up!

This is a great cookbook, filled with recipes
This is a great cookbook, filled with recipes, nostalgia and history regarding a long-standing and beloved landmark. I've eaten at the restaurant and bought Johnny Harris barbecue sauce for many years. I have made a few recipes in the book so far and all were good. I have not made the barbecue sauce yet, so it will be interesting to see if it tastes like the sauce that I buy.

Well worth it.
I use this all the time. The recipes are simple but you get that Johnny Harris flavor. I love making my own bbq sauce!

Johnny Harris Restaurant Cookbook
A history lesson inside a wonderful cookbook. Paints a picture of old Savannah while offering some real culinary delights in a simple recipe style with pictures. Sad to see it go. It was always more family than business.

I’m a born and raised Savannahian. This book brought back so many memories. My grandmother, my parents and myself ate there often. Even my granddaughter ate there. So sorry it’s no longer around, but I do have the book to keep my memories alive.Sincerely, Charlotte Bellah Ward.

So sad the that this wonderful institution in Savannah is closing
So sad the that this wonderful institution in Savannah is closing. Many, many great meals and good times. Where will I get Brunswick Stew (the definitive version) and BBQ lamb?! We must surely be in the end times with the closing of Johnny Harris.
