An excellent insight into our relationship with, and understanding of, the sun
The author charts our relationship to, and understanding of, the sun from the time of ancient sun worshippers to that of the modern nuclear physicist. Along the way we encounter the important philosophers, astronomers and scientists, their methods, theories and instruments. The structure of the sun is described, along with explanations of the origin of sunspots, the role of nuclear fusion and the effects of solar activity on our weather and communications systems. The book ends with a look at some of the unanswered questions, and there is a very useful glossary. The book is aimed at the general reader, and is written in an engaging narrative style. I enjoyed it.
