Doesn't always work.
It only took a few seconds to attach this to my RJ45 connector that had a broken clip. Unfortunately, the plug would not lock onto the socket. I tried to do both modifications to the plug as shown in the supplied diagrams. Neither modification worked. The supplied diagrams are confusing. It would have been far more helpful to have links to online videos showing how to modify the clips if they don't work. I finally gave up and just replaced the RJ45 connector. To be fair, I only tried this on one connector. It is possible it might work on different brands of connectors.Edit: 12/10/2016 The manufacturer emailed me links to videos on how to do the modifications.[...]I found another cable that had an RJ45 connector with a tab which was about to break. I broke it off and placed an SOS clip on it. Unmodified it wouldn't work. The modification where you cut the large part of the clip off did work. (That mod didn't work on the other plug) You need to be careful when you cut the clip because it is easy to bend the plastic of the clip if you use the recommended wire snips, and if you do bend it, you will cause the same weakening of the SOS clip plastic that happened with the tab that broke off the original connector. Cutting it with a hobby knife (X-acto) or dremel (rotary tool) would be less likely to damage the SOS clip. So when it works, it is great. I'm just not sure how often it will work. Also, it looks like it will need to be modified to work most of the time and it is easy to damage the SOS clip in the process of modifying it. Also, you need to position the outside end of the SOS tab to behind the stump of the broken off tab, otherwise it either won't fit into the socket or will pull out of the socket (fail to lock) Edit: 12/11/2016 Because of the problems I was having with these clips I tried the ClipFix brand of replacement clips. I had tried the SOS clips first because they looked much sturdier. However, if you have to cut off the bulk of the clip to get it to work, you are left with a much thinner, flimsier clip, much like the ClipFix. Although appearing flimsy, the ClipFix worked right out of the box, without modification. As with the SOS clip, you have to be certain you get the end of the clip behind the broken off stub. That can be a tight squeeze, but it is necessary. In retrospect, I wonder if I had another go at the connector I couldn't get the SOS clip to work on, I'd be able to do it now, making sure I had it positioned correctly. Not having to cut the clip is a big advantage to the ClipFix and it is priced similarly to the SOS clip. Given the above, I recommend the ClipFix over the SOS clip.

This is one of those products that I wish I had found years ago.
Over the years, I have broken the hold-in tabs of many RJ45 connectors.. The normal fix is to replace the connector, a painful and somewhat time consuming task. These clips attach in about a minute, look fine and work. This is one of those products that I wish I had found years ago.
